I've been really busy lately. I'm working on my 80's mix. I hope you all are too!
Okay, so far the hardest part is figuring out where to put Teenage Age Riot. It's a beast, and probably the best song on the mix. In many ways, the rest of the mix is just background for it. I'm not putting it in the beginning because I don't like to put album openers as the opening song for a mix. I don't know why, I just don't. It seems uncreative.

I think MK mentioned Yellow House like a year ago, and I downloaded a compression, which I'm only now unpacking. I have in the same untouched folder from that period:
Joanna Newsom
Beach House
Band of Horses
Yeah, I think after a few listens it's the kind of think you will really appreciate. Weirdly lo-fi. Great composition/structure. Very different. Listen to the songs "Easier" and "Little Brother." Those were the first two I heard, I remember, and after only a few listens I had to devour the entire album

When it comes to Wilco, I believe in forcing everyone to listen to YHF, putting them off slightly, then watching as they randomly listen to the band's catalogue over the next few years and realize they like it all. Being There has some bad tracks, but it's also jam-fu
cking-packed with some great music. The Outtasite (Outta Mind) and Outta Mind (Outtasite) thing is sooooo cool. It's also a great gimmick to use on mixes for girls.
And "Misunderstood" and "Sunken Treasure" might be the two best songs Wilco ever recorded, even though they're probably just like #4 and #11.

I personally rank Wilco albums:
YHF > Ghost Is Born > Sky Blue Sky > Summerteeth > Being There > AM
I think that's all the Wilco-only full lengths. Not counting the live album. The only one I don't love is AM, but it still has a few solid tunes.
Your mileage may vary.

Honestly, Being There and Summerteeth -- though wildly different albums -- are probably interchangeable in terms of personal utility for me. I give the edge here to Summerteeth for no real reason.

Hey, I was listening to "Videotape" last night, and started thinking about the lyrics, specifically the line "I have it all here in Red Blue Green."
I have a pretty specific interpretation of the "red, blue, green" line, but I was wondering what you guys think. I'll wait to post my thoughts until I get a few people to chime in, either with wildly different or similar interpretations.

Searching for something to say
Flashing lights against the sky
Giving up I close my eyes
Sitting cross-legged on the floor
25 or 6 to 4
Staring blindly into space
Getting up to splash my face
Wanting just to stay awake
Wondering how much I can take
Should I try to do some more

Feeling like I ought to sleep
Spinning room is sinking deep
Searching for something to say

That's what he thought, too...then he released Kingdom Come.
It's not lyrically strong, which is big for me because it's what draws me to rap, but it's sonically great. Some sick beats on this bitch, and Jay's just got a great voice.
It's just that he's an adolescent retard, who still can't get over the Luis Vatton upholstery in his whip. You'd think that a near-40-year-old man who's lived a huge life, run a huge company and ****ed the best trap in the free world would have some kind of wisdom to impart on us, but it's still pretty much all he can talk about. Which gives me hope, actually; if money and b
itches are so awesome 15 years later, it's still all he can think about, there really is some hope for joy in our shitty lives.
But I think Jay-Z may eventually accomplish the impossible: taunting people with his unattainable wealth so heavily-handed that he'll be the first to actually alienate a rap audience with pomp.
If it felt sarcastic or tongue-in-cheek or nihilistic in the slightest, it would be a lot more excusable, even after he used the same 5 verses, over and over. Whatever.

Demonid has it's uses, but I generally use
Torrentz for your common stuff (i.e the latest Weeds or something), and
Torrent-Finder (which lets you tab from site to site) for anything that's going to be a little tough to find. And for porn (share-rate-policed), look no further than

I just dusted off my copy (figuratively dusted off, of course, as it's on my iPod) of "Give Up" by The Postal Service. Maybe I'm just a Ben Gibbard nerd, but I think it's super strong, start to finish. The only gripe I have is that Brand New Colony is sorta mediocre on the album, but when he performs it live with a guitar, it's phenomenal.
Anyhoo, how do all you hipster fucks feel about Postal Service, or Death Cab for that matter? I estimate about half of you will probably like them or be somewhat indifferent, and the other half will be anti-Gibbard, which I can understand, as he is a bit of an emo kid.

I never really got into "Death Cab..." simply because I saw so emo-skank cunts waltzing around in Death Cab for Cutie t-shirts, and I decided I hated them long before I ever heard them. That being said, I liked some of their songs.
Hate myself for liking The Postal Service. I used to listen to "Give Up" alone in my room, and had to turn it way down if I thought anyone else might be in the house/apartment.

I've been enjoying some Saul Williams, as well as lots of Wilco, some Aesop, and I'm trying to figure out why I'm the only living person who doesn't love Biggie. Is there an album that I should try instead of Ready to Die?
