Yeah, this would be great. Maybe we can all take our own stabs at it. I have a few ideas in mind.
Now that I think about it, this is very true.
Contest. Everyone go. I have 3 or 4 good ideas a year, and I think this is one of them. Fire it up,
bitches. My knowledge of music pre-1994, post-1969 is pretty crappy, so I could totally benefit from this

Off the top of my head
Galaxie 500-Tugboat
Pavement- something off of slanted and enchanted
Replacements-Left of the Dial
and I don't know something by My Bloody Valentine, even though Loveless came out in the 90's
Don't talk about it, man. Just do it. The little Galaxie 500 I've listened to, I've liked. They've always been one of those bands I randomly think, "Hey, I should download some of that" once a month, but never do.
And don't worry about being off by a year either way. All of Joy Division's music -- even the stuff recorded in 1979 -- should count for 80s music. Same with MBV. Loveless has always felt like a late-eighties record to me, even though it came out in the 90s. It's the spirit that counts. No rules,
per se.
If I did have to suggest a rule, however, it would be that "Where is My Mind?" appears on every mix.

So did Slanted and Enchanted.
My 80's mix would probably consist of things from the Smiths, Sonic Youth, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Dinosaur Jr., Talking Heads, R.E.M., Pixies (Where is my mind?, obv), Violent Femmes, Tom Waits, and other obvious ones I'm forgetting. Could also throw in some Cocteau Twins, New Order, and The Replacements. Probably forgetting a ton, but that's where I would start.
Then get after it son. Sounds good to me so far. Take an hour, put together 20ish songs, think about it for 24 hours, then make a final 2-disc list.
I think this idea has legs. I'm just excited to hear what IVPro has to say. Anyone wanna lay odds that his mix will just be "The Queen is Dead" on one disc and "Strangeways, Here We Come" on the other?
