I've been listening to one of my favorite records from the calender year 2007 for most of the day. If anybody here likes Shoegazey sounding music (think: My Bloody Valentine), listen to: The Twilight Sad- Fourteen Autumns and Fifteen Winters
It's got the same "soundscapey" feel as a lot of shoegaze albums do, but it's also more accessible in a way, too. It's getting a good ranking in my Year End list.

Seu Jorge, and I think he's Portugese or something, and yeah he did just release something recently.

Anybody watch the tv show Chuck on NBC? I've seen parts of 3 episodes, and so far the soundtrack for the show bears a striking resemblance to my playlist. So far I've heard two songs from Spoon's most recent release (Don't Make Me a Target and I don't remember the one from tonight), and at least one song from Boxer by The National (Slow Show, I believe).
Good call, Producers of Chuck. Using Spoon on the soundtrack isn't incredibly out there, given their odd status as an indie-ish band that's mainstream-cool, but I wasn't aware creative people attempting to appeal to large markets even knew who The National were.

NBC has wood for Spoon, somehow. I've seen them play several NBC post-prime-type comedy/variety shows.

Yea, the material is still early December from what I've been hearing. Just the CD is supposed to be early 2008, but I've heard it may be in December as well.
As for Ghostface, I can't ****ing wait. He is one of few hip-hop artists that has consistently put out good work. Not to mention I'm going to see him in concert Nov. 13th, I still haven't determined how well I'm going to fit in with the crowd there, oh well.

If you look at my CD collection it is predominatley mid 90's rap and that cd was sic. E 40 and the click popped out of all that. I live on the wet coast and my neighbor (black guy) used to live in oakland and new Dru Down. I had his sons do some work for me and asked them if they had ever heard of rappin4tay and they looked at me like I was crazy....I put Luda on them while they were doing work and new all the lyrics, so they obvioulsy new that type of music.
From that time you have 2pac, Dre, Snoop, Richie Rich, E 40 and the click, Dru Down, Too SHort, Ant Banks, Ras Kas, South Central Cartel, Tha Dogg Pound, JT Tha Bigga Figga, etc. etc.

I'd ask him whether he's every felt like he is/was in The RZA's shadow, and how it felt to finally release an album without RZA producing, especially one that was so successful and well-received.

I always wondered why he came up with Ghostface in the first place, why did he want to be the invisible member of the Wu-Tang and why did he decide to drop it eventually.
Also ask him if he can get Method Man's dealer to cut down on the weed they are shipping him so he won't be so fu

I'm making a CD for my father. He's always been slightly interested in some of the music I listen to, but he's... well, he's old. He's a big Beatles fan, likes a lot of classic rock (Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, The Who) and old R+B (Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, etc.), and digs some semi-solid non-terrible music, like Coldplay and Ben Folds Five. He also really REALLY likes the song "Wolf Like Me" by TV on the Radio, for some reason. I don't even know how he heard it. I think I accidentally put it on his iPod when I was setting it up for him a long time ago. He likes the song "Smile" by Lily Allen, too. I don't know.
So I'm fielding suggestions. He asked me to make a CD for him, but I don't want to scare him off with anything TOO weird or progressive or dense or anything. Here's what I've got so far:
The Clientele- (A few songs, probably from Geometry of Lawns. I'm thinking "My Own Face Inside the Trees" and "Since K Got Over Me.")
Arcade Fire- Neighborhood No. 1/ Tunnels
Beck- (Not sure... could choose like 100 songs... ideas??)
Bloc Party- Banquet
Wolf Parade- Shine a Light
Feist- Mushaboom (or One Two Three Four)
Flaming Lips- Buggin'
The Hold Steady- Stuck Between Stations (or How a Ressurection Really Feels)
LCD Soundsystem- All of My Friends
Modest Mouse- (I have no idea... anything but Float On)
The National- Slow Show
The New Pornographers- Use It
Radiohead- (Must have one Radiohead song, but don't know which to pick)
Spoon- The Way We Get By (and maybe something from the newest album, either "You Got Yr. Cherry Bomb" or "Don't Make Me a Target")
The Streets- Fit But You Know It
Sufjan Stevens- Upper Peninsula
Wilco- Shot in the Arm (or something else from Summerteeth)
This is just a random list of songs I thought of real quick. Any other suggestions to a Beginner's Guide to My Music would be helpful. I obviously can't fit everything on one CD, so I'm just going to compile a huge list and then cut it down. I've got plenty of time, so no rush.
