Early nineties major label grunge day was a success.

Now (it's after midnight), as I've had an absolutely brutal day, I'm listening to The Unicorns' "I'm ready to die" on repeat. The death's what suits me.

I Highly, Highly reccomend..

"Rhinesmaidens" by The Envy Corps

You can download the song from their Myspace..

http://www.myspace.com/theenvycorps

They're kind of a Modest Mouse meets Keane meets A Flock Of Seagulls meets Blondie.

Very, very cool band. You'd never guess they were from Iowa.
RonBurgundy
i icon_suit_heart.gif the unicorns, i just have part of their album because i use archaic dl'ing programs but the 8 or so songs i have i listen to a lot. ready to die is among them. the clap is the best song named after a STD of all time. i can not be sure of that last statement but am prepared to defend it.

In highschool I wrote a series of songs for a friends bands about STDs, including "Chlamydia Chloe" and "Herpes for Hermione."

They were terrible, and "The Clap" is a better song. I've only got the one album (Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone?), but I love it.

Why do you have downloading problems?

cause im computer-tarded. i use acqlite, which is really just 5 versions of limewire all bundled up, and i can usually get 5-10 songs even for not so known groups so it works for me. and if i really wanted to, i could probably look up every song on the album and download it individually. but ive never figured out all that bit torrent, music swapping stuff.

Wow, I don't know what a word of that means.

I was just gonna go ahead and suggest "Bear Share." It works great for me. There are some bands (Love is All, comes to mind) that have no exposure, but everything else works great. Superfast downloads, no bad shareware, and it runs smooth.

I've heard, but I'm lazy.

I have no idea if Bear Share has a mac version. I think "www.bearshare.com" would have that info on it. Listen to KG before me, though, and try www.soulseek.com

only thing i dont like is that its only doing one song at a time, and fairly slow. oh well. such is life.

Since you mentioned the unicorns album, I realized I didn't have it. I too have begun downloading it and already have half of the songs done in under 3 minutes. Hmm..

Right next to the A, at the top of the page, you gotta write "Kid" and frame it.

Also, for a poetry class I had sophomore year, I just stole Radiohead B-side lyrics, and on a few I got Cs, and was very unhappy

I did the same type of thing my freshman year of high school, using "Time" by Pink Floyd and just changing a few small things. Made it to the 3rd round of some national competiton.

I recommend Bear Share as well....it really hasn't given me too many problems (other than the occasional bogus song). It is still my favorite program to use though....Wang, you need to hit me up so we can do some trading...

On top of that, my teacher made the best three essays present in front of the class, and I brought in some portable speakers and played Kid A in the backround softly as some kind of ambiance. It was sweet.

As for writing Kid next to my A and framing it, I would, but my teacher is gay and just wrote 98%.

nobody answered so i just put on Curtis Mayfield-Superfly

Album of the Day: The Doors - L.A. Woman.....this CD has been in my rotation in my car for the last few months. I really think this is by far the best Doors album....who knows how many more great albums like this they could have done if Morrison didn't pass away so young....

That guitar sound actually drove the creative influence of the band (Sheilds) crazy. He drove the studio he made that record for into bankruptcy, then himself into musical seclusion.

I'm not sure what sound you're referring to, but it's a very highly produced album. It kinda sounds "grungy" at first listen, but give the album 5-10 spins, and you'll get hooked. Scouts honor.

Good call. I'm all over that. I'm gonna make a "Fly" mix very soon, roll the windows down, and cruise with the windows down.

Who knows, I might even try and sabotoge the power steering. Don't know if I'll have time

Sorry Don, didn't see this post earlier.....Wang summarized it pretty well. Kevin Shields was on a quest to find the perfect guitar sound, and once he created what he thought was it, his band (My Bloody Valentine) made the album Loveless. It doesn't really sound like anything else out there....very ethereal. The whole album has a sound that takes a little bit to get used to , but it is worth it in the end. I didn't really dig the album until the 5th or 6th time I heard it, and then I started connecting with the sound (maybe it was the ganja....). The songs have a sound that kind of absorbs the listener. Give it a shot, as I think this is one of the best albums ever made.....
mbreon
Good call on Superfly. I haven't listened to that album in a couple of years. I'm going to throw on Eddie You Should Know Better right now....

thanks mbreon. i think it was a problem with itunes, just made all the songs sound wierd from a technical standpoint. im pretty sure i get what the songs are supposed to sound like and im pretty sure ill like the whole cd once its done downloading.

but from all this i did notice that kevin shields made a few songs for the lost in translation soundtrack. one of them called city girl sounds just like my bloody valentine from what i can tell.

Yea, I do like that stuff off the Lost in Translation soundtrack. My Bloody Valentine has another album that is alright (I think its called Isn't Anything, or something like that), but Loveless is the masterpiece.

this is the part where my OCD makes me say The Maestro MPF-1! The Maestro MPF-1!

In a word: yes

Sometimes is probably the easiest song on the album to listen to at first. But put the effort into understanding the rest of the album if you don't enjoy it right away. It's for sure worth it. Loveless is one of the best albums of the 90's if not of all time.
