put Rise Against up there on your list.
Amen to the Alexisonfire reference.
Speaking of Rise Against, what happened to them?
Swing Life Away was a good tune, but I haven't heard
anything since. One hit wonder??
well they have been a big underground hardcore band for a while, then swing life away blew up
I recommend Like the Angels by them
Rise Against is good. They don't really put out a bunch of singles on the radio. They may not have any other big hits, but they're still a good band.
I actually have Beck in right now.

been following Rise Against since 2001.... I actually attended there first ever gig which was in Toronto opening for AFI.....

IMO there first 2 albums........The Unraveling and and Revolutions per minute are the best.........latest 2 albums are sub-par sad.gif

Eh, I've taken some time off out of Off Topic, but I return today. Havent read through most of the pages, but here.

Just discovered a band "She Wants Revenge." I gather they have only one album, but I've heard two tracks: "Out of Control" and "Tear You Apart".

Good dance/trance music, with some pretty decent lyrics.

Also, was listenin to Ethel on XM the other day and heard Superdrag. Im sure they've been around for awhile, but the song I heard was "Sucked Out." Interesting how the lead singer his the different octaves in the chorus.

Other songs I've heard recently that Ive instantly recorded cuz I like so much:

"Le Disko," by Shiny Toy Guns;
"Bohemian Like You," by The Dandy Warhols;
"Run," by Snow Patrol; and
"Welcome to the Black Parade," by My Chemical Romance.

I believe he worked with Dan The Automator doing Handsome Boy Modeling School, which I'm a massive fan of.

Remember the song Torn by Natalie Imbruglia? Well, I remember once on Howard Stern that the original songwriter was on his show. Anyway, the song writer is Anne Preven from Ednaswap. I have the song on my myspace page right now... I probably will change it out in a couple of days. After remembering the song and hearing the original, I want to explore more of her work. It is very good and not poppy like the Natalie Imbruglia version.

My favorite thing to do when I'm hanging out with new people, is to let everyone get comfortable, chatting it up and whatnot, then throw on "fabulous muscles" and watch how fast everyone gets really akward after the line "cremate me after you cum on my lips"

seriously, it's the funniest thing ever.

No, that happened to me once, on accident. I was on a double date, and I had that on a CD in my car. I wasn't really paying attention, because I was chatting up my date in the front seat. But the people in the back heard it, and kinda flipped out.

I did not get laid that night.

Start with the poppy stuff, and move from there.

Tracks like "Beanbag Chair," "Autumn Sweater," "Stockholm Syndrome," "Center of Gravity."

Those are good pop songs. After that, you're getting into the more feedbacky/sonically innovative stuff.

It's all fantastic though. Download the album "I can hear the heart beating as one."

ratm. i remember when evil empire came out, i was like 16 i think...i lovvvvvved the first album so so much, and i really thought brendan o'brien kinda ruined e.e. GGGARTH's production on the first album is so clean and awesome. evil empire sounds durrty in comparison. like they just plugged in, set up a couple mics and pressed 'rec'. after a couple years though i really liked evil empire too. i think the energy is almost better because of how loose the production is. bulls on parade would be my choice for 'in case of emergency break glass' song.

Man, I was in 8th grade, I think, when it came out. My mom was kinda vigilant about "inappropriate music" when I was a kid, since I had a younger brother 6 grades behind me, so I had to listen to The SelfImmolating Monk Album in my room, alone, with the headphones on.

I bummed a ride from a friend of mine to the mall (you could drive in KS when you were 14 or 15, depending on the circumstances) and bought Evil Empire the day it came out. At first I had the EXACT same qualms as you, but I was a little too unrefined to really elucidate what it was that bothered me. After a few months, though, I actually liked Evil Empire better than RATM, precisely because I think the lo-fi production goes well with the desperate, frenzied, MADCAP tone of the band.

I think I'm one of the very few big Rage fans that enjoys Evil Empire more.

i love the way evil empire sounds. i think its their best album and that sound really suits them. they are a band that should sound gritty and kinda third world.

Is anyone else really pissed about Tower Records closing. There was a great one near my house in Connecticut and it was the only place where I would by music. The prices were good and they had some great sales. Now that it's gone, whenever I go home, I won't be able to buy music. It's kind of going to ruin my life.

I never got into this whole iTunes thingy. I mean, I love iTunes and use it all the time, but I would never buy music through it. I need something tangable to hold, or to play in my car when I'm driving, or to display in a giant case to show off to everyone how many CD's I own and how good they are and therefore how good of a person I am. Plus if my computer were to crash and I were to lose my music, I'd have to murder someone. And I don't want to go to jail.

We're pretty blessed in Seattle to have a couple of great independent local chains, Easy Street Records and Sonic Boom Records, to shop at.

Except for the hip-hop, which they don't carry, because- according to the hippie behind the counter- "black people don't buy boods."

It's always sad when music store chain closes down, but there's not one anywhere close to here, so it's not a huge deal for me. And, ya, I buy all my music at A)Best Buy or cool.gif little indie record stores around town.

Not so much of a gamble. If you're half Radiohead you've got to be at least a 4:1 fav.

If the world were perfect, I'd be like 1:250 to get laid here. Sadly, I'm going to hope she recognizes {nice dream} from that time she got all stoned her junior year of highschool.

I'm also thinking about tossing in a little Johnny Cash. I think girls might appreciate guys who appreciate Johnny Cash. I have no basis for this, apart from my very very short friend getting a respectable amount of *** he attributes directly to his Johnny Cash fanhood.
