Also, mbreon I don't think I've mentioned that I'm going to Indiana University, I know that's your alma-mater, so yay for us.

Are you? Awesome man....what will you be studying?

A few tips:

1) Don't sign up for any class before 11:15 a.m.
2) Pay attention to what buildings the classes you sign up for are in. It sucks having to run across campus multiple times per day.
3) Dorms - go for Foster or McNutt to see the most hot freshman girls. Wright will put you closest to campus.
4) Going Greek - I did it, but it's overrated after Miles Brand cracked the whip. Don't waste your time.
5) Find someone over 21 who looks even remotely like you, and have them make a copy of their IDs for you. Never try to get into Nick's with a fake. Stick with Sports, Kilroy's, and the Bird.
6) For God's sake, go to as many shows as possible. I got to see a lot of great bands for next to nothing before they were big....saw Spoon play for $5.
7) Never go to Vertigo or Axis.
8) Memorize the numbers for Aver's and Pizza Express.
9) Your G.P.A. in college means absolutely nothing when you look for your first post-college job (unless it's a 4.0). Just try to keep a 3.0 or better if possible.
10) Enjoy it. It's a good school with a great social atmosphere.

If there's anything else you want to know about the school, just PM me. Anyway, I still need music suggestions and no one will give me any. Come on people, I'm recovering from surgery here, miles removed from my music collection! Anyone got anything good to listen to?

I feel like you're being pressured a bit to love them. I think you just have to relax, listen to them casually, and slowly get into the songs and come to realize what the band's all about. Enjoy the bends and and OK Computer, but hold off on Kid A for a bit until you think that you really have come to grips with both of those albums. Just my two cents, though.

Nope. I have 1000 different Radiohead-fan friends, and they have 1000 different favorite tracks from each album.

Wait a second...

I think my favorite is "Street Spirit" followed closely by "Blackstar," and "The Bends" and followed in tied for fifth "[Nice Dream]" and "My Iron Lung." I also absolutely love "High and Dry," the acoustic B-side of "Fake Plastic Trees, "Bulletproof... i wish i was" and "Bones." Then everything else, which still scores higher than most everything else in the world.

Like I said, The Bends is a primer, preparing you for the jump in sophistication. Don't fret, be cool.

It's my birthday in 40 minutes, so I'm probably blackout drunk. Wish I could be here for the Education of Dutch, though.

Only because the song is actually called "Bones". That song rules. Thom's vocal acrobatics in the chorus defy logic.

Message to Dutch: Many people who don't like Radiohead go on to live relatively normal lives. I know a lawyer who doesn't like Radiohead. I got this from Wikipedia, regarding people like this:

QUOTE
Individuals with this condition may make great intellectual contributions: published case reports suggest an association with accomplishments in computer science, mathematics, and physics. The deficits associated with it may be debilitating, but many individuals experience positive outcomes, particularly those who are able to excel in areas not dependent on social interaction, such as mathematics, music, and the sciences.

I myself have never fallen in love with Kid A. Does this mean I have less self-worth? Sure, I have trouble in my day to day life (I still can't tie my shoes) and dealing with people who don't understand, but that's their problem, not mine! So, I guess I'm just trying to say, embrace who you are. If you like Radiohead, great, if not, no big deal. Stop reading here Dutch.

To everyone else: I know I'm full of it, but we've turned this in to too big of a deal for Dutch. Shame on us. He needs to feel like we'll accept him no matter what! This is the only way to ensure he tells us his true feelings for Radiohead, and we can then judge him accordingly. And that whole bit about not liking Kid A, that was a lie, seriously, I love it. So much.

The version I downloaded has it titled "Bone" in iTunes. My roommate's girlfriend is backing you up, so I'll just say that's not my fault.

I like The Bends more than OK Computer right now. I can't say I'm a HUGE fan of either, but I understand it's an acquired taste.

Also, my musical selection is entirely based on mood, so maybe another day will bring a greater appreciation. --Or maybe it just not my style.

I didn't really listen to the boys until I was a Freshman in college, and one of my roommates was about half as intensely into them then as I am now.

I think I had a 2-4 month period during which I slowly began appreciating the band. There were a few tracks I dug immediately (pop-style), but I didn't really start LIKE-liking the band for a long time.

So if you don't love it, just try and keep them in the "shuffle mix" for the next 8 weeks. I come from a completely "music appreciation" background, with absolutely no "technical likey-likey" shit on my resume.

So, if you really don't get it or appreciate it after a few spins/weeks, just get all stoned and listen to Kid A.

I became a big Radiohead fan back in high school, and I fully admit that my appreciation began after listening to them.......on weed. The Bends really seemed to rock out with a lot of my stoner friends back then, and it was the only thing I could ever get them to listen to that wasn't Phish (I am a Phish fan too, but in proper doses).

Don't let people shove the band down your throat, Dutch. Just give them an occasional listen and see what you think. Even though I am a big fan, I can't stand watching other people denegerate others because they don't "get it" or don't listen to it. I used to chastize people for thinking that way about the Talking Heads (which I view Radiohead as a late `90s incarnation of - and no, I don't want to get into a heated debate about that point, that was merely my opinion at the time).

In all honesty, I was a fan, but not a diehard fan until I saw them in concert. They were simply incredible in concert and I gained a real appreciation for them then. But you are far from stupid if you gave them a chance and didn't like them, after all, we like what we like as music fans. Kid A is pretty out there and I know many people who hate it (even though I like it). In fact, to my memory, it's the oddest album I can ever remember reaching #1 on the album charts.

It took about 5-6 listens for me to really appreciate albums like Kid A and Amnesiac. The Bends is a little easier on the ears and an album that most can appreciate. If you have the chance to find any live performances on the web (even their SNL performance where Thom does the crazy dance and Johnny plays an instrument that looks like an old telephone operator machine), and let me know what you think.

Today I feel like feeding my cheesy `80s music addiction. And yes, as a child of the `80s, there are some musical tastes that I have that I can't really defend. I listened to Candy-O by The Cars this morning, and I will defend that Ric Ocasek and gang were pop geniuses, regardless of what anyone else says about them. I will also sadly admit that I am a fan of bands like Genesis (especially when Peter Gabriel was there, but even after he left), and will listen to a little of them today too. Is there something wrong with me? Definitely - but I like my occasional cheesy `80s music marathon, what can I say....

I first heard Radiohead at the beginning of my Junior year in high school, so about two years ago. The first album I heard was OK Computer. I heard Airbag and thought it was pretty good. Then came Paranoid Android and I had to have listened to it at least 40 times in the span of one day and I was (at the time) convinced it was in fact the greatest and most genius song ever recorded.

So I started to explore the world of Radiohead and got all of their albums. I was told by a friend to listen to their albums in order, but to just skip Pablo Honey. I didn't skip it, and I didn't like it. Anyways, I listened to The Bends and loved it. Listened to OK Computer and, of course, loved it. Then I hit Kid A, and that was a moment that changed my life. After one listen, yes just one, I was instantly convinced it was in fact the greatest album ever recorded. Never before have I heard a band completely change their sound and still create great music. I moved on to Amnesiac and was a little disapointed, it was good, but not what I was expecting. I listened to Hail to the Thief and was once again blown away by Radiohead's ability to create great music. I am positive that Kid A is the greatest album ever created, and Idioteque ( no longer Paranoid Android) is the greatest and most genius song ever created.

Radiohead changed my life, and they started what I like to refer to as my "Musical Revolution." Before listening to Radiohead I was never a big music guy, but Radiohead made me realize that music can be a beautiful and life-changing experience. Since that point, I have never looked back.

I could make an argument for Summerteeth or for Mermaid Avenue, which wasn't mentioned on your original list (even though it is a collaborative effort and not really their music, but still a great album), I think Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is their opus. That album is Wilco's OK Computer. It will be the album they are remembered for down the road.
