Pandora

Personalized radio station...pretty freaking cool

I listen to Pandora like once a week, and I'm doing it right now (because hip-hop is not my forte, and I defer to the people at Pandora to relieve the mental constipation).

I just got a pretty sweet PanString:

Entry: Dr. Octagon (artist)

First song:
Dr. Octagon- Earth People
Busta Rhymes- Got you all in check
DJ Zeph- The Movement
Cannibal Ox- The F-word
Aesop Rock- No Jumper Cables
Pete Rock- The Main Ingredient
Sage Francis- Climb Trees (from his awesome album "Personal Journals")
Prince Paul- Weapon World
Roots Manuva- Juggle Things Propa (from his awesome album "Brand New Secondhand)

And that's about as far as I've gotten. I think I left out, maybe, 2 artists. I know one of them was Naughty by Nature, and I forget the other. With some kinds of music, I feel like Pandora is very hit or miss. But this was a pretty spot-on run.

Man I hate hip-hop. Btw Dad (can I call you Dad?), I think you'd like Windy & Carl if you haven't heard it yet.

Today's liiiiiiiiist:

Autechre - Draft 7.30
Elliott Smith - Either/Or
Portishead - Live in NYC
Gloria Record - A Lull in Traffic EP
David Garza - This Euphoria

lvpro - great call with JB's Meaningless. So, so great. I would have 10,000 of that guy's babies. And re: Jon Mayer, I think he's a talented guy, but he's a little too willing to "play ball" for me. I feel like he could probably make some really good music if he took a slightly less safe route, but he's proven he's willing to pander to the masses. Also, his voice gets a little grating after a while.

Good man.

I'm fairly unfamiliar with Todd Rundgren's stuff. At least, not familiar enough to make a comment.

Try Todd's "Hermit of Mink Hollow"

Bang the drum is very annoying:

Bang the drum by Todd = Owner of a Lonely Heart by Yes

I've got in the car: Big Audio Dynamite, E=MC2
supertouch
judas priest- screaming for vengeance

rob halford is the metal GOD
ROGUE06
Guns N' Roses- Use Your Illusion I

Yep, I'm listening to Meaningless again. Love it. I agree with your comments about Mayer pandering. I think the Trio stuff is a little less pandering.

After Meaningless, I might listen to it again. Because it's amazing. Or maybe something else. Not sure yet.

Classic band, but that statement might be a little bit overboard.....my personal vote for greatest punk band will always go to The Clash.

I call bs. They had a hugely popular song during the late 90's that you HAD to of heard. It was like Barbie Girl and mmbop or whatever, you hate to admit it but you have heard it. It was something like "I have never knocked on wood, but you wonder if I have or wonder if I would". Something like that.

Picture this:

A collaboration between Jon Brion and Brenden Benson.

Would human ears even be able to hear this? I think it would cause our brains to explode with it's perfect, pure poppyness.

I'd take that chance.

Have you guys heard the new Scott Walker disc? It's called "Drift." I think it came out like a month ago, I dunno.

I took my bimonthly "smoke and sample" night tonight, and.... God. I haven't been this impressed by anything since the beej I snagged from the chubby lonely chick a few weeks ago. Give it a shot guys. It's different. It's dark/sparsey/pop. But it's just so good.

It reminds me of a combination of Anthony and the Johnsons and Bonnie "Prince" Billy during the "I see a Darkness" era.

I wouldn't invoke the name of that album unless I were dead/dead DEAD serious.

Try it, guys.
