Oh, and I am going to start a new thread on road trip mixes if anyone (DrawingDead, KDawg, Wang, etc.) wants to contribute.
It'll be tomorrow, likely.
Or late tonight, when I'm buzzed pretty good.
Gonna go out and get some beers now, but, good talk, gentleman.

I was indifferent towards him for a long time, but then my friends who went to IU played his albums like the whole ride down to Tampa(except for when I was driving, I had to get in my miles davis then), so, listening to Coug for over 12 hrs sucked balls
There's no way I could listen to Coug for 12 hours straight....or Miles Davis, as much as I like him. Too much good music out there for me to concentrate on one artist for too long....though I did go through a phase in 6th grade where I listened to nothing but Pink Floyd's The Wall for about 3-4 months straight.

well, I could do miles for 12 straight, but that would force me to bust out all of his albums that I own, I'd still want some diversity though

Ha...I think everyone should. It's probably my favorite album (double album, whatever) of all-time. Everyone I know is always so stuck on DSOTM that they don't give The Wall the credit that it fully deserves. Interesting movie as well....

Good call. That is a great live album. Actually all of their live albums are insanely good. One of my biggest regrets in life was being very sick and not being able to see Pink Floyd when they were on the Pulse tour. I had a ticket and ended up giving it to one of my friends...I figured I would catch them the next time they toured....whoops.

Not a Neutral Milk Hotel fan? I kind of like them. To NortonFan, it doesn't matter if its consider "indie", but just know that there is plenty of great music out there that doesn't get a lot of exposure, in every genre. I don't know which of these bands technically qualify as "indie" (a term I seldom use and am not a fan of in terms of categorizing music), but check out some of the bands on KDawg's list. Some other bands you don't hear much about but you might like are The New Pornographers, Belle & Sebastian, Sound Tribe Sector 9, LCD Soundsystem, Portishead, The Shins, The Walkmen, TV on the Radio, Tortoise, The Eels, Mogwai, Super Furry Animals, and Spoon. You might find some stuff you like in there.

In the Aeroplane Over the Sea. If it doesn't turn into one of your favorite albums right away, give it some time and let it grow on you. There are very few albums that I love more than that one.

oh comely is a real good neutral milk hotel song. not many bands can make an 8 minute song with just a guitar and voice and make me want to listen to the whole thing. and for norton fan, who the recommendations were for, hes really into metal so i think some of the "harder" indie would be good suggestions. i think he'll like mars volta, at the drive in, and death from above 1979 (not really indie but oh well).

Also, in Burgundy's vain, try "Sunn 0)))." I don't like them much, but they're very gloomy. Try them.
Neutral Milk Hotel is a fabulous album that, like most great albums, rewards patience. The two albums it was hardest for me to listen to at first (that I later couldn't stop playing) were "Aeroplane over the Sea" and "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot."
Anyone who likes hiphop would be well-served listening to "The Avalanches" with an open mind. For some reason I've had them looping on my iPod the last two days.
