I see I have missed a lot over the last few pages....are people really trying to hold DMB and Radiohead in the same light? Get serious, people. At the end of the day, Dave Matthews makes pop music for the masses. Granted some people in his band have some definite talent, but Dave himself is a mediocre songwriter (in my opinion). Radiohead is widely regarded as one of the top bands around (if not the top band) by most music critics. They are already considered one of the most influential bands of the past 20 years....What other band could release an album that sounds anything like Kid A and have it open at #1 on the charts? CardWarfare, I don't plan in getting into any kind of heated debate about it, since I could care less about DMB, so we can just agree to disagree. If you like them, that's cool. They are just not for me.
Oh, and bigkg I agree with you, Kid A is their best work. OK Computer will always be the critical favorite, but Kid A has always been my personal favorite as well.
Anyway, today I am going to go with one of my favorite albums of all-time, Rubber Soul by The Beatles....
It was never a radiohead vs. DMB debate. it was two seperate debates - one about radiohead and one about DMB.
As for your thoughts on DMB, you're entitled to your opinion. But calling Dave a mediocre song writer is just plain wrong.

Ahh....my bad for mixing the two. I have always been a DMB hater, much to the chagrin of all teenage girls I know who force me to listen to it. For people who don't have much exposure to the jam band scene, DMB can be a good introduction to it, so I'll give him some credit for that. Hey I have heard all the Dave albums, I saw him live many years ago, so I know his material, and I don't think his songwriting ability is anything special. I think it is mediocre at best.
I'm curious to know what other bands you listen to that have any type of similar sound to DMB. What genre would you classify DMB in....

Woah.
Way to hold down the fort, BigKG. You was all like Kevin Garnett over the last few pages. MVP, baby.
Dave Matthews is an incredibly talented guy with a nice band. I think he blows chunks, and writes pansy as standard love songs. I don't like him. He's a good musician. I still don't like him.
Radiohead is probably the most innovative musical act of the past 20 years. I don't think people realize what an incredible accomplishment the OK COmputer/Kid A tandem was. That was a complete musical metamophasis, and Kid A was almost completely inaccessible to the average music listener. They OVERHAULED they're sound, after releasing what many critics considered one of the greatest rock albums of ALL TIME.
And it was a ****ing monster hit, critically and popularly.
I still like OK Computer better, but Kid A is definitely a close second.
And anyone who thinks serious musical historians and fans will look back and
a) suggest Dave MB was a better band than raiohead

suggest that Radiohead is not going to go down as a legendary rock act
Is nuts.
Radiohead is probably going to be recognized as the best band of their time, and one of the handful of greatest musical acts in modern history. They're the ****ing Beatles.

I don't think anyone was specifically saying that DMB is better than Radiohead. They each have their own audience, for sure. I happen to be a member of both. Personally, I'm more of a Radiohead fan than a DMB fan, and I agree that they will definitely go down as one of the greatest bands ever.

I was thinking that Radiohead are the Talking Heads. I think Radiohead is the most innovative/creative band to have commercial appeal since the Talking Heads in their prime. Radiohead acknowledges Talking Heads as a major influence on them...Radiohead's original name was On a Friday, which I believe is a reference to a Talking Heads song....

So today I was looking through a pile of shit in my room and found a $40 gift crd to Best Buy. So I'm thinking what I could possibly buy with just that, because I hate spending my own money. Nothing big, no video games, I don't buy CD's, but I went to just look around. I was looking through the music section and I noticed The deluxe editions for Pavement's Slanted and Enchanted and Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. Combined it was under $40 so I bought them. About 50 or so songs on each and a little book in each one. Very cool and definately worth a pickup for any Pavement fans, or just fans of good music.

I really can't find anything I don't like about it--except maybe the singles, but even the singles are pretty good songs, in all honesty. It is a CD I tend to hide behind my Houses of the Holy if I know someone'll be going through my CDs, but, it's also a CD I've bought about 6 times because I keep waring it down to nothing.

It's mainly just the extra stuff. The sound quality might be better, I have only listened to the extra unreleased and live stuff. The books are pretty interesting reads too.

Oh, well imagine; as I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor,
and I can't help but to hear, no I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words:
"What a beautiful wedding, what a beautiful wedding!" says a bridesmaid to a waiter.
"Yes, but what a shame, what a shame, the poor groom's bride is a whore."
I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"
No, it's much better to face these kinds of things with a sense of poise and rationality.
I'd chime in "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!"

**** YOU GUYS!
I'm going to put some some black eyeliner and write in my journal about you.

I'm not a big emo guy, really, but I do enjoy Panic! At The Disco. To me, they seem more punk-poppy than emo. I usually equate emo with lame acoustic guitar whining (i.e. Dashboard Confessional) or it's louder counterpart (My Chemical Romance). Panic! doesn't really have the whole "woe is me, my life is so bad" thing going on lyrically that those bands do, which to me, is what emo is.
