Full Version: a very agressive 5/5 table

I've been to my local poker room a couple of times now. There is always a 5/5 game going with a max buy in of 600. I bought in for 300 and quicky found out how loose the table was. Everyone was flat callin before every flop and when there was a raise it was for 25. How would you guys attack a table like this? I tried to play tight but my big bets were called by draws and got sucked out.

Be aggressive in position with good hands. ABC poker and patience.

this kind of table is extremely easy to break.
1. Don't run many bluffs.
2. Don't try to steal blinds. Blinds are meaningless in this game.
3. Raise w/ position with good cards.
4. Limp from LP with little PP and suited connectors when everyone's called around (i think that's what you were saying in your post) Implied odds are huge in this case. Also limp with small PP in EP if you think that it gets called around often enough.
5. Don't get fancy
6. Don't get fancy.

#1 most common mistake when playing at a loose tables with donks is trying to run over them wiht fancy play. It wont work. they will call you down. Limp more often then normal from mid to late postiion with suited conectors and small PP's. You will usually get payed off anytime you hit a nice hand. Also, dont slow play as much as usual. If these are calling stations dont be afraid to bet your strong hands. you cant scare them off so you might as well make the most of your monsters.

I agree. Donks dont understand fancy plays.

3. Raise w/ position with good cards

Scotty. All this is good advice, but I'm wondering how you approach overcards in EP in a game like this? Since raises are so likely to be called it seems like they lose much of thier folding equity and thus lose value. Thoughts?

Live, (because this is usually the only place i see this type of game). I raise AK. Raise AQ suited and Limp A face suited if i think the table will call around often enough.

The thing to keep in mind is that if you miss the flop, you don't throw out a continuation bet. There are just too many people.

If I hit the flop with say 4 callers behind me. I usually bet about 1 1/4 the pot and force a player to defin their hand. If I'm beat by something, they'll play back at me. And the bet is large enough to a live player that they will be scared to run a move on me most times. (Play exceptions if there's a maniac in LP that will try to take the pot if i check. But he's gotta be pretty bad for me to take this line)

Saying that these type of tables are easy to break , really is intriguing. I live in Denver , Colorado , and we have a 5-5 5-10 limit game , vastly filled with very aggressive , no foldem holdem type players . Usually when I want to play some B&M cards in a casino , I play the 3-5 game .. but I cant help but notice how much exciting the other table is.

I'll be honest, I beat the crap out of the 3-5 game and then Ill take my winnings and try to parlay it into something bigger at this 5-5 game. I usually get smoked just because the pots become capped preflop and then I never hit anything and my stack dwindles.

I've always wondered about what type of strategy to utilize in games like these . Im a very tight , aggressive ram-jam tptk in limit , especially in the 3-5 , but I become meak and intimidated in this 5-5 game.

As a poker player , when I see a game like this going on , I begin to become less interested in my current lower limit game, and think about how juicy the other game is . And 5-5 shouldnt be that much more different then 3-5 , but here @ blackhawk casinos , I get destroyed.

Thanks for the advice , and good post to the OP ... I think this might help me some.

Are you talking no limit here. The OP is but it seems like your post is about a limit game. "Getting capped"

Just want to note that a 5/5 table where the avg raise is only to 25 is pretty unusual. Usually seem anywhere from 40-60$ as the opening raise.
TJ_Eckleburg
I just hate hearing "play ABC poker" because most people's conception of that is very flawed.

And the other problem is "playing ABC poker" is very subjective and relative to the table we've never seen, so it's hard to give good advice.
