Lately, I have been seeing my unfair share of these. They always hurt b/c I don't seem to be able to put the brakes on. Lets say I have middle set assuming there is no straight or flush scare out there, should I ever think of slowing down, or am I correct to keeping bumping it up? Furthermore, lets say its a random opponent that hasn't shown much thus far.

if villainīs are showing a lot of agression and the board doesnīt offer any other possibilities i often slow down on the river, but not before.
i guess thereīs not much more wisdom to it than that not many things suck as bad as set over set.

i kinda chalk that one up to bad luck. i push middle set with no other draws all the way. i kinda look at it like a nl loss. you woulda pushed all the way any how, and i get to lose less than i would have in nl. wait till you hit a couple top FH when the other guy makes quads, i just laugh and pay up. i'm not good enough to lay down middle set or to slow down with it.

Why slow down at the river? I mean, how would you even _get_ to the river with him putting action on you?

You should almost never be closing action with mid set before the river if there are no flush or straight possibilities.

Cap it all the way. If you're playing live and the cap is removed, then you can think about slowing down.

Not unless it's NL and you've each got super deep stacks and you have tons of play time with the guy to suggest that he's a nut peddler.

sorry, i donīt know what you mean.
and i was thinking mainly of bottom sets. after rereading the op, yeah, not what he asked for.

I initially read it as a no limit hand.

Then half way through the post i saw it was on the LHE forum.

Thanks, I'm glad to see that I have been playing right. Chalking it up to bad luck is the way I have approached it so far, but I thought I'd ask and make sure I wasn't missing an opportunity to improve. That and I was a little steamed after the 3rd one this week.
And yes luckily for me it was all in LHE, I'd be hurtin if it were NLHE.
Thanks
