Full Version: funny donkey hand

.25/.50 Blinds NLHE ($50 max buy-in)

Table is terrible. My high watermark for the session is $180, but I've lost a couple of tough pots, so here are the stack sizes for the important players:

Me: $95 (I'm on the button)
EP: $20
MP1:$30
MP2: $106

I should also say that the only one who worries me is MP2. He's got me covered, and he's played well so far. The other two are complete donkeys.

EP raises 4xbb to $2, called by MP1 and MP2. I re-raise to $8 w/ QQ, everyone calls.

Flop: 94J rainbow.

EP moves all-in for $12, MP1 moves in for $22, MP2 calls. I'm pretty sure I'm in good shape here. As I said the first two players are donkeys and could have anything, so I'm not giving them credit for a set. They are both relitively short, and could have anything.

I'm trying to decide if I want to keep MP2 in the hand, or if I should move in. I don't think he can have a really strong hand, 'cause I feel if he did he'd want to protect it from me, so he would raise. So far all he's done is call raises. Finally I decide I want to see if I can win something off him, so I just call the $22.

Turn: 6 (suit unimportant - no flush draw)

MP2 checks. At this point I wasn't sure if he would commit any more chips, but I didn't want to let him draw out for free, so I moved in for $65 or so. He folded.

River: 9

Now I know posting results is unpopular here, but the whol point of this funny donkey hand is what the other players had. So the results are below:

EP: KJ (pair of Jacks K kicker)
MP1: K9 (Trip 9s K kicker)

Remember they both called a pot-sized re-raise w/ those hands out of position......

So I lose a large pot to this total donkey, who immediately leaves, so I don't even get a chance to win any of it back...

Yep, they suuuuuure were donkeys. Good work.

I can't really decide of re-raising the flop to isolate MP2 is better than calling and moving in on the turn. Looks like it worked out, either way.

I cant work out why he would mvoe in after a check on the turn after giving a free card with a hand as susceptible as queens... This has got to be negative ev.

Incidentally, the play in the hand, especially from short stacked players is completely unremarkable. Not having a go, I just often read how people at 50/1 or 1/2 would NEVER call a raise with A3/K9/KJ etc etc. I dont think that, at these levels, more than 20% really understand postion /pot odds or implied odds.

Re-raise more pre-flop. There's $6.75 in the pot when it gets to you. When you call, there's $8.75, and then you put $6 more on top of that. We really want to get this heads-up, and this re-raise isn't going to accomplish that. Re-raise to at least $10, if not $12. In an ideal world, EP will realize that he's pot-committed and push in...which puts good pressure on the other two.
