I need a little more info. What sort of sound/audio device is installed? Have you re-installed drivers for that device? Was sound working before you added/changed something?

no idea, no clue, no idea, didn't change anything. I turned it on and I can't get sound to play.

What OS? XP? ME?

I really can't walk you through all the possibilities, but go to control panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, and check out everything there.

Hope that helps.
allinbluff35
i did and under the volume part at the top is says there isn't an audio device.
Shimmering Wang
Restart.

Then jiggle the thingie in the back.

But you have to restart again, after that.

Then plug the headphones in, see if they work.

If they don't, restart.
crazyIvan
Well, I obviously don't know what's installed in the computer. If there is a separate sound card, it may need to be reseated. Possibly dust, bad connection, etc.

Other than that, I can't suggest much. Sorry.

press and hold the windows key and then press pause/break. This will bring up the system properties screen. Click the Hardware tab, then in the middle section of the window, click "Device Manager". Expand (that means click the plus) on the Sound, video and game controllers.

If you see anything with a red X, right click it and click enable (or you might have to reinstall the drive). If you cant get this to work, reply with everything under this option listed.

Did you get your problem fixed or just havent seen this thread?
theredpill99
hahaha.. this thread is awesome.

If you or your friend installed the wrong sound drivers or whatever on your computer, then that can be a possible problem. I went to Microsoft's website to update stuff on my PC and I installed sound drivers that I thought were the right ones and I ended up losing sound on my PC so I did a system restore and it fixed it back to the way it was.

Do this:

Right Click on "My Computer" icon on your desktop or find "MY computer" somewhere in your Start Menu.

Click on Properties.

It should say "system properties" now in window that is opened. If not, you aren't in the right place.

Then click on the "hardware" tab.

Then click "Device Manager"

Then find your Sound and Audio drivers.

Double click it and it should open up and show all of your drivers. Then Right click on your Audio Driver and click "Update driver"

and follow the directions to either re-install it or uninstall and re-install or update it and it should fix your problem.
