So we were playing a home game the other night and a guy I consider a very good Omaha player (at least for a "local") said, "POT IT IF YOU GOT IT".

This of course in PLO, cash game... if you have the "current nuts" (top set on a non-straight board without 3 suited cards).... best straight on a non-flush board, best current boat, nut flush on an unpaird board etc. he says you should just bet the pot.

That, I would think, would make anyone's drawing odds incorrect in about 95% of the cases (unless you have top set and they have soemthing like an overpair and an open end str8 flush redraw, therefore having somewhere around 97 outs)

Or, do you play more conservatively and make a smaller "info" bet, and see what develops?

Are you missing out on long term EV by NOT LETTING THEM DRAW? In other words, maybe betting 1/2 pot and ALLOWING a draw (being ready to lay it down if the draw comes)... could you extract more money long-term that way?

I know that "pot it when you got it" has been working VERY VERY well for me on the Bodog $5 sit-and-go tourneys, I've cashed in 18 of the last 20 (11 firsts, 4 2nds and 3 3rds - with one bubble and 1 early-out)

But we play omaha cash after our holdem tourneys so I want to see if this strategy works just as well long-term in cash?!?!

Id say it depends on your opponent. In PL, so many people will call with incorrect drawing odds, if the bet isnt too big, because they recognise that if they hit, they can probably take a hell of a lot more.

Say for ex, youre playin 1/2PL, flop comes down 9 icon_suit_heart.gif 4 icon_suit_heart.gif j icon_suit_club.gif . You have top set, he has nut flush draw+overcards. Even if he puts you on the set, he has 9 outs to nut flush (8 of which are enough for him, j:heart: kills him), and a backdoor str8 draw, for maybe 1or 2 more outs.

The pot is say 15, and you both have decent stacks (200 odd), you bet the pot.
He's got about a 40% chance of hitting, getting 2-1 on his money. Mathemtically incorrect to call, but if he hits, he can rely on you betting out again, probably the pot, which allows him to go all-in.Whether you call it or not, he's gettin a ton of chips.

If he's one of these players, I see nothing wrong with bettin half pot, and if the flush card comes, dump it. Otherwise, youre might be committing yourself to a lot more chips.

If he's tighter, pot it, and take whats in the middle when he folds - better to make 10 bucks than to lose 200...

Like any other strategy, if you opponent knows you play this way consistently he can take advantage of you. So you still need to vary your play. If you pot the nut straight into a board with flush or higher straight redraws you need to play very well after a danger card comes on the turn or river.

That said, in a S&G it's difficult for most opponents to read your strategy so it will work for a while.
