Alright... I was playing on a table with Actuary, and he criticized my river call here. I think he is probably right, but I want to see what everyone else thinks, and he said to post it... lol.

Now I think the turn is a fold or raise, folding to a 3-bet.

If you are called, I'd call this river

But folding Turn is simpler play.

Actuary,

I don't think this turn is a call or raise. If a club hits the river, you're almost certainly sunk. You'll be glad if you just called the turn.

Whether or not you continue on this turn depends on what you think of SB. The pot is quite large, and even if you're behind to a hand like AJ, you have a lot of tieing outs. You might even be a head of SB.

If you've noticed SB plays a SSHE style of poker, you may be able to let this go on the turn if the pot was smaller. That's because if he had a made hand on the flop, he would likely go for a c/r. With a fd, he'd be looking to build a pot. But with 10.5bb's in the pot, you are getting the correct odds to outdraw a flush.

So yeah, I think this is a call on the turn. I don't really see any point in raising since you're not going to knock anyone out. Also, there are plenty of river cards that you may want to fold to. I like the way zach played it.

my poker math is not intuitive/fast while playing.

Which rivers are we folding?

clubs, right?
how about 5 icon_suit_diamond.gif ?
Is our kicker good enough to risk?

I would have trouble folding the turn and seem to only be able to when posting, not playing. Results bias may be there as well.

If we call too many rivers, I think the odds to draw for 2 BB's to beat a flush/better ace/trip fours, or just to split with any Ace, may make it -EV. Of course we have 2-4 more bets when we boat up, again, though, sometimes splitting (albeit rarely).

This takes more math that I like to do on Christmas; so I'll trust Screech.

Which rivers do we fold to make calling the Turn proper?

Raising seemed like a decent option to not allow a club draw and get a free SD vs a better Ace, perhaps, folding a better hand. THer is little in the books I've read about this play, so I present them here for critism

Actuary,

I'll give you my quick, hungover, math.

We might be ahead on the turn, so we call. But if we're behind, we have the odds to draw out. When we get to the river, we still have the odds to call.

I can't do any better than that right now. :-)
