what do you think of this:

1/2 or 2/4 at party
1 limper from EP, all fold, I raise, blinds fold, EP limper calls

2 players to the flop.

(the flop completely missed me)
limper bets, i raise, limper re-raises, i fold

i occasionally do this.

but the raise sometimes wins me the pot, so which is the reason i occaionally do it.

is this a donkey move?

assume i have no reads on him and he doesnt have a read on me

Depends on the opponent.

An aggressive player is less likely to actually have a hand here, but more likely to play back at you.

I'm not too sure really if this would be profitable long term. I do it occasionally, but usually if they reraise, I'll call, assuming I have outs, ie overcards, and then fold turn UI.

A lot of it depends on flop texture and what exactly you have as a hand. I mean it's a lot different when he's betting into you with a ragged flop and when he bets into you with a boardway type flop.

one of the main things i look for when watching opponents is their propensity to bet into preflop raisers and/or aggressors, and what this means they have.

a player betting into a preflop raiser might show lots of strength or weakness. read-dependent you can either fold or raise there.

but before folding to his three-bet, make sure you don't have the odds to call. often you'll have the odds to call a bet now just to hit your gutshot or whatever.

I think it's a donkey move unless you should be raisnig based on your hand.

Of course. There are reasons to do this, such as seeing where you are in the pot, playing for a free card, etc. It all depends on what you have, and what the board is like, and how many outs you have, etc.

in the context of the post "I missed the flop"..its a donkey move.

doing it to see where you are, as the primary reason, is super donkey move at micro

Ok, if missed the flop means no potential at all, etc. This is such an stupid topic anyways. Every single situation is different. If you think your AJ is still good on a board of 259 and you think he is just trying to push you off of your over cards, then it is a good raise. But there are so many variables in play, it's hard to look at it in a general sense.

Nachunja,

I do this occassionally from time to time. My normal play is to either fold overs right away, or to call the flop and fold the turn UI depending on my opponent, my cards, and the flop texture.

If I've noticed my opponent repeatedly donking HU flops, or if I figure out that he's quick to release weak made hands to any sign of strenght, I will start to raise the flop when I whiff. Sometimes I will call the flop with the intention of raising any paint card on the turn. Like I said though, more normal play is to treat my overcards as a weak draw. I only start playing back at my opponent with nothing when I have a good reason to do so.
