I cant win if I dont bet!
It's a B/F here.

If I dont bet, I probably c/f, expecting to see 66-TT, maybe even a or 3
So I'm betting to keep from folding a better hand.

Plus, maybe another Ace high calls me.

i'll assume c/c or c/f wil be the preferred line..and when i wake up tomorrow, maybe it will be. But this seems ok now.

Why not?

I would much rather check/call on this board. Overcards are peeling on this flop and turn a lot. Plus there's a flush/straight draw on teh flop.

And why are you betting to keep from folding a better hand? Bet/fold costs the same as check/call except with one, you never fold the best hand.

I knew you were an optimist!
77 folds, Ax calls. The ol' value-bluff.

Ax may also bet if you check. Same with busted flush draws. Unless your opponent has a pp, he likely never connected with this board. Your hand is good enough to check/call.

Given the villain is new to the table I go with the c/c line.

1) I think you will get more value when you are ahead as you will encourage a lot of bluffs

2) You can't be bluffed off by a river raise

3) You will get to see his hole cards to see what he calls to the river with

See above Canada's and Screeech's posts!

Excellent.

Yeah..the "I can't win if I don't bet" was a joke, they say something like it on the WPT.

I was illustrating a point on this hand and thought smeone would help use it as a good example.

Well done!.

On Check/Call
I would expect to lose to a small PP sometimes.
But hopefully lesss than 6:1

What about the "he calls with more hands than he bets with"
Does that only work when I can expect to win at SD more often and rarely get raised.

I'm at that stage now where the information gets scrambled sometimes and it leads to misapplying things.

The results are interesting here.

That works when you have a made hand. Most opponents fit this description, but not very many of them are calling with a worse hand.

In this case, even though he may call with more hands than he bets with, most of those hands he calls with have you beat. However, he may bet a higher % of hands you beat, but still call with more hands (busted draws wont call, but may bet).

Anyway, the play here is to check. You then weigh the odds that your opponent is bluffing vs pot odds.

Screech,

when I try to answer my own questions, it would be nice to see the answer quoted as well.

Then when you reply, I'll know whether that was correct or not when you give a similar yet not same reply.

So is this correct:
He almost always bets/raises his strongest hands here.
He will not bet some of his weakest made hands
He will call with all made hands
He will bet some missed hands
Thus when I have a "bluff-catcher" only, c/c or c/f.
Betting KJ icon_suit_diamond.gif here makes more sense, I get it.

thanks, Screech.

I'm not being results oriented.
He did happen to call with AT (not icon_suit_diamond.gif) .
He often would bet with that too, given the call, I'd assume.

Absolutely.

Especially the last point.

Some bad players will bet ace high here. A lot of players will call with ace high here too. Especially at 6-max. If there weren't so many draws on the flop, betting might be better.
