can anyone tell me about windows registry cleaners. just had a pop-up and tried it. but are they duds??

All they have to do is mess up once, and bam, you'll have to reformat your harddrive.

Allowing pop-ups to install programs on your PC is like playing Russian Roulette with 5 barrels loaded. It's not if you'll get a virus/trojan/worm...it's when.

Every so often I use Registry Mechanic (http://www.download.com/Registry-Mechanic/...4-10349249.html) and it seems to help quite a bit. As long as you know what you're doing and can be able to tell it what to get rid of and what to keep, you're fine. Along with this I run HiJackThis (can also find this at download.com) to remove certain spyware and malware
