I thought I would try and get some recent opinions on the action at the different card rooms here in So. Cal.

Please feel free to share your positive and negative feedback.

I like the Commerce Casino. Lots of tables and plenty of room. I have found that I am able to win on about 60-70% of my visits. So far that has me slightly up on $$$ but nothing to get excited about.

I play the $100 min NL and the $200 min NL tables. There are many regulars that are tough to beat, but patience has worked for me. I am not a very aggressive player. I play for fun and pocket $$. The $$ is not my main reason for playing as I am semi retired and just enjoy the action.

I found Hawaian Gardens much easier but the room isn't very comfortable. Very crowded, so I have only played there a couple of times. There are a lot of players there that like the "all in" approach, especially with marginal hands which has made me $$.

The Bike was very nice, but i only have played there once. I want to go back again.

I have not tried Hollywood, Hustler, Normandie, or any others.

I would definitely like to hear if anyone has a certain time or day they find does well.

Isn't it great that we live in SoCal and have card rooms available all over??? :-)

I love Commerce because of the action and the comfort it offers. If you play tight and go for the jugular when you've got it then you can usually make some good money there.

The Bike is kinda dirty, but it's still fun to play at. There aren't easier players there from my experience, but it's still nice for a change of pace.

Hollywood Gardens is REALLY dirty and I don't like that one at all...

They're all over the place. I know in LA traffic sucks, but I totally believe that Commerce is the place to be. (Course, I may be a little biased, that is where I made my biggest score yet in a tourney.) But the chairs are comfy and you don't feel like you have to keep one hand on your wallet when you're walking in and out of there.

Only played at one LA casino (Morongo). It was alright...definately a different atmosphere than what i'm used to since i live in SD and play at Sycuan a lot. Morongo's more of a resort so nobody really knows eachother like at other cardrooms where you walk in and are greeted by 3-4 people that you know right away. If anyone's coming down to SD i recommend Sycuan.

hustler has a juicy no limit game, u can buy in anywhere between a 100 and 300...

I live in North County San Diego, and spend a lot of time at Oceans 11. Good big card room, always a lot of people, lots of variety. I love it.
Recommend it to all.

Its in Oceanside right off the I-5 at mission.

Good times.

Back when I lived in SD I played at Sycuan every now and then. A nice room, except when it was invaded by 19 year olds wearing basketball jerseys, sunglasses and backwards caps whenever a $10 NL tourney was about to start.

Morongo is not in LA.

its an indian resv near palm springs.

1st. Commerce has the best action and most games. its a fish market. dont know much about the main poker room but the big room is great.

2nd. Bike is smaller but more cozy. some big games there too sometimes.

3rd Hustler is no good unless you wanna play stud with larry.

the rest S U C K

i can be biased because im basing this on higher limit games.
dont know much about low limits but i assume commerce is the best for that too.

hawaiian gardens is the bus-i-ness.
this is my live stomping ground. the 100nl game can be a grind sometimes but ive played limits up to 6/12 (now 5/10 after they started the kill pot) and they can be really good sometimes.

but if you dont love that kind of atmosphere it's definately not for you. now whenever i get a bad beat i go "di-yaaaa" and slam the table. it's like a cat picking up the traits of a bird.

don't waist your time at any casino in l.a. that's not h.g. or commerce.

IMO, Commerce tops them all. The most tables, the largest variety of games. The Bike is fun too. Not as roomy, but the action there is pretty good. When I started playing, I was at the Hustler all the time, but mostly go to Commerce these days. Hustler is a decent room, but only for the higher limit games. Any low limit tables you play is like lottery poker, everyone fishing to the river. On a positive note though, certain times of the day they have a bad beat pocket aces $100 prize. If someone beats your bullets on the river, you get $100. And it happens often.

COMMERCE- best selection and great if you play $100nl or $200nl. SEAFOOD BUFFET tongue.gif

THE BIKE- toughest competition in town and not many games.

HUSTLER- SOFT play at the 2/5nl $300 max buy......this may be my spot the next few weekends just to verify my first visit wasn't a fluke tongue.gif

So you only have to be 18 to enter Sycuan or is it 21? Same with Morongo?

Hustler is cleaner than most but there aren't too many tables but the players at the NL tables are action players compared to say Bicycle or Hollywood Park.

Hollywoord Park is quite ghetto and feels/looks like a huge cafeteria. It offers softer games than Hustler and Commerce I believe and does not have the long wait that Commerce does.

Morongo and Sycuan are 18+. Nothing wrong with the 18-21 year olds with basketball jerseys and sunglasses for the 10 dollar tourney as long as they sit at the cash game tables after they bust out right? I know I don't mind it. And don't knock on those of us below 21. If you've got a problem with playing with 18-20 year olds, go to Oceans 11 or Rincon. There's plenty of cardrooms in socal, can't we all just get along?
