Q icon_suit_heart.gif Q icon_suit_diamond.gif K icon_suit_club.gif J icon_suit_club.gif. Is this hand a powerhouse, or just another hand. I find myself licking my lips and raising and re-raising pre-flop w/ hands like this - All broadways w/ a pair and at least 1 flush draw.

I know this hand is big, and I know this question is vague, but is it a monster, or should I be slowing down?

I'd prefer to see a flop from EP to MP3 with this hand without raising. LP, I raise here to separate the wheat and chaff. Calling a reraise is iffy, but calling a single raise I think is appropriate. Yes, it's good, and with the right flop monstrous, but it's vulnerable to any A. Definately a playable hand, though.

definately not a monster nor is it really that big. you have 3rd pair, only one flush draw (which isnt even to the nuts), and only 3 cards that are working together for straight possibilities.

even if you flop a set, you may be drawing dead if your opponent has aces or kings in the hole and they flopped a set as well. similarly, queens unimproved have little showdown value, so you're pretty much looking to hit top set, a straight, or a flush to win.

raising is a bad idea. you'd rather play this hand multi-way, as it isnt dominating any hands heads up (except for maybe kqjj).

I am not an Omaha Hi specialist, but while it does have a pair and a flush draw, its draw is not ace-high, and the pair is 'only' queens.
without kings, aces, or four high cards to a straight, i'd reconsider reraising pre-flop.
however i think its a hand that plays well after the flop, so i think raising pre-flop is fine.

i think it's a very strong hand, but perhaps not a "powerhouse"

I think you are evaluating this hand wrong. Only 3rd pair? You are not playing this hand for it's "pair strength". This hand has great strength and has potential to hit plenty of monster flops. You should be playing this from any position for a single raise.

let's see...

one flush draw (not to the nuts)
three connecting card.

while this isnt bad, it's certainly not a monster (which is the central idea of my post)

granted this can hit some flops pretty hard, but so can any 3 connecting cards.

just another hand... IMO, it looks better than it plays.

I would definitely play this hand, but IMO it is really only a drawing hand. I would not push and re-raise a raise with it, but would call a raise.

Plenty of hands can beat you here unless you get a magic flop.

This made me laugh. Why are we playing any hand in Omaha, or even poker... lol laugh.gif

ace and kings in the hole can win pots unimproved (if you can get it heads up). queens rarely do

When are you ever getting it heads up in small stakse PLO? If you are, you are at the wrong table.

I still don't really know how I would play this hand, but I usually limp with hands like this. If I were to raise it, I tend to feel committed to a bluff/continuation bet on the flop, because of my hold em play. Either way, I think it's a limp, and call a raise, because it is a strong hand. I wish the flush draw was to the nuts, but it could be worse.
