The wife and I are going to venture to our nearest B&M for real poker this weekend, and that, I am frightened to say, is Tunica, MS. What can I expect here? How many teeth will be at any given table? Will tattoo's outnumber teeth? Just kidding. Don't mean to offend my good neighbors from two states over.

Anyway, any guidance would be appreciated.

Tunica is great, I go from Atlanta twice a year. Usually stay at the GoldStrike with a poker room rate of around $20 (you have to play 6 hours a day but there isn't anything else to do in Tunica anyway). I never went to Vegas in the old days but as far as comps go Tunica blows the current Vegas out of the water. At the GoldStrike and Horseshoe all you have to do is ask for buffet and they will give it to you, including breakfast before even playing. The only thing holding Tunica back is that it is out of the way.

I like to play at either the Horseshoe Casino or Grand Casino when I go to Tunica. The Grand Casino has daily tournaments at noon that are usually inexpensive to buy in. Also, Horseshoe casino is really good about their comps as someone else previously mentioned and they redisigned their poker room and made it much larger last year. These two casinos are also the site of the WPT (Horseshoe) and WSOP (Grand Casino) in January.

Stayed at the Gold Strike. Told the rooms are much nicer than the Horseshoe or Grand. The Horseshoe Casino is the most crowded, but a bit old, and definitely smoky, smoky, smoky.

Played tons of poker at Gold Strike. They had a saturday 11am NLHE tourney, $35, with rebuys and an add-on, that put me in for $125 total. 107 players (biggest field ever) and pot over $8000 (also biggest ever for this tourney). Got terrrible cards all day and hung in for 19th place (only paid out to top 10).

Also played the 3-6 (seems like a lot of industry locals) and the 1-2 NL game, which was the most fun. I lost in the 3-6 but won in the no limit.

Never paid for any meal or drink, as they are easy with the meal comps, and tons of cocktail waitresses, unlike Vegas where it's so tough to find a drink these days.

Overall it was fun and I would go back.

P.S. I love that the word "cocktail" got censored by the software in the above post ....

It's not like I was trying call them "fucking" waitresses or anything crude...
