This was insane.....and it wasn't a split pot, or a freeroll situation.....

I decided to go to the local casino this evening (Niagara Falls, US) and play some 3/6 LHE. I didn't have anywhere to be tomorrow, so I stuck around until very late. By around 4:00 AM, we had been playing 3-handed for the better part of an hour; on my left was a pretty solid TAG who i'd been playing with all night, and who adapted well to shorthanded play, and on my right was a guy who had been at the table for maybe an hour and a half; he was slightly loose and not always aggressive enough, but he was certainly not a fish when we were 7-handed; he definitely wasn't quite aggressive enough shorthanded, especially preflop, but he wasn't chasing longshots or making any horrible calldowns either.

So anyway, we're just about ready to break, as the TAG had to prepare for an early flight (he was only in the area on business). Then, I get dealt pocket queens in the small blind. The button (the weaker player) raised, I 3-bet, and the BB (the TAG) capped; when the TAG capped, button was preparing to cap himself, and made some sort of comment as such.

The flop came QJ7 with two diamonds. I was certain that the button would bet, so I decided to c/r (perhaps I should have just bet out, but I decided to c/r, since I wanted the TAG to have to pay to stay with a hand like AK or AJ). Button bet, I c/r'd, and BB folded. Button then 3-bet, I capped, and button wondered if he could reraise since we were heads-up - he was told that he had to wait until the turn, and then there would be no cap, since the entire round would be heads-up. He clearly was not acting or anything, I put him most likely on JJ.

The turn was an offsuit T. I bet out, and BB raised. He said at this point that he was willing to get all his chips in here - the dealer told him that we could put in as much as we wanted, but of course it's limit, the raises have to come one at a time. I said something along the lines of, "well, I'm not sure I'm willing to get it all in, but I might go for awhile". At this point, BB still had around $80-90 in front of him, and I had him covered.

I still did not believe that he could possibly have AK, K9, or 98, given his actions prior to the turn. So we reraised back and forth 4 or 5 times, at which point the dealer said, if you're both just going to keep going, go ahead and put it all in. He said he definitely would keep going (he still had about $40 left), and I said sure, let's put the rest in. (Every time I reraised here, I kept thinking to myself, this is dumb, why the hell would he be raising like this without AK? It's not like he was drunk or anything, and he hadn't done anything maniac-like to this point. But his preflop and flop actions had seemed so honest, I decided that I was fairly sure I was ahead, and figured even if I wasn't, I had ten outs).

So we got it all-in, the river was a blank, and he turned over AA!!

I am still wondering whether I actually made a smart play getting it all-in with him there....

Also, the BB said after the hand that I made a good raise on the flop, as he folded AK (and I'm sure he was telling the truth - we had been friendly with each other the whole evening). Although I'm still not sure my flop play was optimal (clearly the result was good). Man would that have been crazy if BB was still in (although, of course, in that case the betting would still cap at 4 bets).

I still don't know what button was doing... After we put all our money in, I asked the dealer and BB what they thought we had, and button said, "well, I'm pretty sure you have a straight".... I guess he was a displaced NL player that just wanted to marry AA and go all-in...

I was so stunned to see button's hand that I don't think it even occured that he had 6 outs to beat me until I was walking through the parking garage (well, 4 outs, since BB folded AK); man, would that have sucked (except that I'm guessing I would have had one of the few genuinely original bad beat stories).

Anyway, that's how I ended up winning an 40 BB pot in 3/6 limit holdem, 3-handed, with only the 4th nuts.

(EDIT: Whoops, I originally called it an 80 BB pot; evidently I can't do simple division when I'm tired. The final pot was somewhere between $240-$260, so over 40 BB; still a pretty unbelievable pot for 3-handed 3/6).

So your BB/hr was...?
