Full Version: caught in a raising war that i may have instigated

This was my big loosing hand from this session.

Preflop bad limp? UTG+2 was very weak tight, he liked to limp a lot and then fold on the flop. I thought about raising, but the seats to my right were all around 25-33 vp$ip, I dont think my hand is strong enough for this if someone calls my raise (they loved to cold call, even with hands they should have three bet with).

I hate the call on the river. I'm good here never.

Flop raise?

And the turn, when you think its gonna get capped anyway, but you're not going anywhere, might as well cap it yourself? While I have no fold equity here, maybe they wont think I have the flush and I can get the river capped three ways.

I think I just got excited and kept raising like a moron, but maybe not.

Flop is good, you are drawing to the nut flush, and with so many people in you have a huge equity edge. I dont mind the turn, it will probably get capped anyway. Fold that river.
Actuary
anyone raise pf?
Buying button or taking it multiway with this hand for two bets, either way is good.

Flop, terrific.

Turn, Just call. Sure, it may get capped but why put money in w/o an equity edge for no reason.

DO NOT FOLD THIS RIVER.

well, EV wise, maybe, but unless you are a better man than me, losing to a worse overplayed hand would suck.

CO flop the str8 ?
SB have KK ?

You're overcalling on the river with 3rd pair, when the flop and turn was capped?

You're folding getting 27:1 ?
Briguy
27:1. Call. There is nothing wrong with any street on this hand. I suspect that 76 got paid handsomely here. Sometimes that happens, and there ain't much you can do about that with TPTK and a flush draw on the flop. And a donkey who hates money in the SB.

Can I add: A 6-handed flop on Stars 1/2?? Is there a new reload bonus?
Verdimme
It is just one bet on that river, true, and you get a very good price on your money, also true. But in my opinion this is a classic where you do not want to overcall.
nrs 02004
I feel like overcalling here is a classic example of NOT A BIG LEAK!!
Seriously, In a pot this big calling if you were just playing the board wouldn't even be a big leak (well, maybe I exaggerate a little) but (a) you only have to win like 4% of the time, and (cool.gif you get in this situation extremely rarely.

I'm think calling the turn is right. You have at most 14 outs to improve. Even if all 14 will make you win, you're still not 1:2 to win, and you're putting in 1:2 moneywise.

Are you good 1/27 times?

I doubt it.

If the SB folds i obviously call, with _any_ pair.

I think the guest made a good point...it cant be a major leak, so you dont have to worry about it too much. Im still not calling that river though laugh.gif

Calling can't be a major leak..not calling can be!
Verdimme
OK, you got me..next time i will call that river. You are right..the few times we encounter this situation we should pay.
pokerplayer24
Unless you're up against 2 maniacs fold the river. You are never good on this river.

booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo !

CO only needs to have 2c 3c or the like
Obvioulsy he'll take a stab.

Overcalling SB really sux, but he too may put CO on a missed draw and hope his overplayed Ad 4d is good.

Hey I know its a stretch. But it's freaking 27:1

don't know about PS but on Party 1/2, 2 maniacs at a table is not rare. Certainly 4% of the time.

Overcalling is a tiny mistake if at all.

CALL!!!!!!!!

So where do you draw the line?

Do you call if you're overcalling _two_ people?

How about if it's bottom pair?

Obviously there's a line to be drawn.
Actuary
Where's Guinvescense ?

He likes to make these pro folds

laugh.gif

Geesh it takes me 400 hands to win 27 BB... that's a lot of time singling it.

Given the action...
If I was told I'd have to give x amount back to the house if I ddi have the best hand, I'd overcall as long as x was less than 9.

18:1 ..that's about where I'll draw the line to over call.

Edit to ADD:
Holy Cow: Abracadabra, I was writing this before I read your post. I'm psychic!. holy cow.

i tend to draw the line, oh i don't know, at about 26-to-1. laugh.gif

in all seriousness, i see your point, but it's really really really terrible to fold this river, even with third pair, getting 27-to-1.

think about that.

you have to be freaking > 96% sure yo'ure beaten.

> 96%!!!!!

OMG WTF BBQ

> 96%!!!!

i can't tell you the exact line. that's too arbitrary. i CAN tell you that this is far past it.

Im pretty sure you've got an idea of where the 'arbitrary' number is.

If the pot was 20BB's would you call there?
15BBs?
10?

10 is definitely below the line, i wouldn't overcall here with 10.

15-20 is pretty close, so i guess somewhere in there.

probably closer to 20.

i think 27 is far past the line.

laugh.gif I was just kidding. I had read the thread. Was hoping for a more animated response from you and Aseem...

Yeah, I was planning on playing last night but I was feeling pretty sick, so I figured double-dosing on Nyquil and passing out was +EV compared to having a few beers and staying up late playing poker. I'm gonna try to play tonight, though.

Of course, now I have to work my roll up again because I drunkenly tilted down to $400 the last time I played. I suck. I figure once I have more time and can play at least 4-5 times a week I'll have to buckle down...but for now it's just play time still.
