is it ever ok to check these? i would think you want any draws to pay you off. is the correct decision to bet or double-bet? i could see how this could be situational, but what is the most common procedure?

Are we talking Stud, Stud 8, or Stud Hi-Lo? It would be different for all three IMO.

In Stud, I would say that if you were showing a pair, and actually had trips, you may want to check, depending on your opponents, allowing them to "catch up" to your pair (ie. make a bigger pair themselves, get two pair, etc., all of which are losing to your trips).

In Stud 8 or Stud Hi-Lo, you would certainly want to make any low draws pay to get half of the pot, so I would bet it regardless I believe. May not bet it depending on what it is that I have paired on my board though (ie. if it is a pair of nines only, and I don't have a nine buried, and there were 2 or more lows out there, I might not bet.

Probably didn't help you much. 8)

you do realize that almost noone plays Stud Hi-Lo regular anymore, it only happens in the big game, so really, Stud Hi-Lo for all intents and purposes is Stud8

I DO understand that, but it should still be identified when posting. Also, I hate it when some sites advertise Stud Hi/Lo games, when it is really Stud 8 games that they are hosting. Blasphemous! LOL.

i think irregardless, your only checking this in hi/lo with trips or lo x, lo x 44 infront of you. in hi only, if you are tripped or have top pocket pair. you might want to bet it if you have two pair or less, and most of the time (assuming I'm acting first) I'll make the double bet, that is if you are going to play this hand.

your action should depend on the action at the table. if this is one of my first hands at a new table (and i'm sure this is a mistake) i'm making a decision to either check or double bet. single bet doesn't enter in at all.
