Hey guys...I am relatively new to tournament Omaha and was wondering on advice for improving play. I have had some recent success with a second place finish on Full Tilt. In any case here is the hand in question.

This is early in tourney and the player involved with me has raised two other pots already both times showing A 2 XX, and was obviously very agressive...

hmmm. Well you were raised by an awful hand preflop(nevermind - O 8/B). I don't mind your raise or your call here preflop. The flop, however, spells trouble. Yes you have top set but what beats you? Any QJ, could he have played AKQJ or some permutation with QJ the same way? Any flush, how about Ac, 2c, Ah, Th... yes he could have. What else beats you? 2c, 3c, 9h, Ad. Any flush has you beat on the flop.

If you are going to raise this preflop and he reraised you, you can only be worried about 1 hand... AAxx. If you don't think he/she has it then you have to re-re-raise. I see the tournament just started, and you lost the first hand, you likely don't have reads on the others. So that might not be the best idea.

(oh, by the way, this isn't the Omaha 8/b forum, you can post this there)

you can not bet this flop IMO, or at least you can't pot bet it. You simply are beat by too many other hands. Any flush or straight has you now. You may want to check call the flop and look to hit a pair on the turn. If he doesn't bet his 6 high flush(who would?) then you see free cards, which is what your hand needs.

Don't bet the flop and look to improve your hand cheaply. Toss it if you don't.

another way of putting it, your hand is a powerful drawing hand.... that is it!

but you need to avoid made hands, of which there are too many possibilities of made hands out there.

You're not playing Omaha. You're playing Omaha Hi/Lo. Huge difference between the two. Villian had a pretty huge drawing hand preflop, which is why he re-raised. You raised with two pair in your hand and absolutely no low draw.

You hit your set, he hit his flush. Just don't play this hand at all next time and you'll avoid this situation. Seriously, KK-88 is a pretty awful PLO8 hand.

Fold preflop. The only way I am playing this hand is if there are several limpers to me, and I don't think anyone behind me will raise. You need to know what you are looking for with this hand so you can avoid trouble. You are looking to make a full house in a multiway pot, not go heads up against a raiser

thanks guys.

I realized that it was 8 or better after i signe up and I am very inexperienced in it

I am still surprised that he raised my pot bet on the flop with the 6 high flush????

With low cards, which I thought he had I wanted to protect my top set. I figured If i check he certainly is going to make a bet with 540 in the pot already, adn tehn I would have to decide from there.

I pot bet to give m one more chance at winning... him folding, and I considered it a semi-bluff...if called I still had outs to win

My play might be bad, but does anyone see the donk i am playing with?

I am also confused as to how kk88 is a terrible plo8 hand? ANy explanation would be aprreciated. I know it has no low draw, but I thought it was a terrible play to draw to the low when heads up as u can only win half the pot if u hit.

All comments are appreciated

well.... one drawback is that when you hit a set of 8's, there is a much higher chance that someone else picked up a low or a low draw.. then if he has a high draw you can get freerolled or win high and still win only half the blinds.

KsKh8d8h is a weak hand in O/8. This hand is an easy fold UTG. In late position you can limp for cheap. It is definitely not a raising hand. You can hit a flop like Kc 5d 4d and will be a 64.5 to 35.5 dog to a hand like Ad 2d 3h 6s Any Ace,2,3,6,7,8 or diamond that doesn't pair the board makes for a tough call even if your hand is still good for half.
