Hello, I'm Los, long time reader first time writer. Didn't know where to put this, so here it is.

Recently I played at a house game, tourniment style NLHE where 16 of us started for $20 a head with one $20 re-buy optional at anytime you go bust. Get's down to 5 of us in a game in which only 2 players ever rebought and it pays out to 3 places, third getting there money back.

So here we are, and of course as can happen the newest guy to the game, and particularly never played at this house, is winning. Big stacks, just eatting everyone up. Comes down to a hand in which he is BB, with blinds at 500/1000, everyone folds to the SB who calls (small stacked) and the BB raises to 4000. SB whines a bit and folds. Now here is the interesting part.

BB asks to see the cards, to rabbit hunt for what would have been the board. SB explodes. A lot of, "We never do that in this house when the blinds are this big!, You can't do that!, It's totally wrong!" and blah, blah, blah, blah.

I interjected mostly due to beer drinking and not being fond of the SB player to begin with. I cited many times in which I was being played at or playing in the lead where time nor place mattered, rabbit hunting went on. All the time. Not something that irks me, more just annoying to me. Also, having had some to drink, I was not that elloquent, infact my style is more heavy on the explitives. Needless to say that did not do much to calm things down.

Now my question to the panal is this: When you do play house games, do you already of set rules and guidelines in place for just so situations or do you play it by ear? How do you feel about rabbit hunting at all? Was the SB guy in the right? What do you guys think?

Other than rabbit hunting being an annoyance (if I wanted to see those cards I would have paid for them) I can think of many other things being worse affronts to the game texture. Like adding a re-buy option halfway through the game....Worst game ever....But I digress. I'm open to feedback.

I think if you don't already have rules about this set up before the game starts, the situation should be decided by only the players remaining in the game. If you're down to three people, they are the only three whose opinion counts on the matter. Somebody who was knocked out three hands ago should keep quiet, as should the guy who came with his buddy and is just hanging out and watching.

Personally I think rabbit hunting is the devil, and when it's up to me I never do it. My brother loves it. I can see where it leads other people to chase their draw next time, and of course it will bother the one who folded and whose miracle draw would have hit.

You either need to allow Wabbit hunting or not allow it. It would be even more of a pain in the ass if you had situational rules for it.

I'm with dface tho, I never rabbit hunt. Once my cards hit the muck, they are dead to me. I also try not to dwell on cards that would have hit on the flop. There is one guy we play with that he absolutely gets enraged after he throws something like Q-9o away and it two pairs.

Recently I played at a house game, tourniment style NLHE where 16 of us started for $20 a head with one $20 re-buy optional at anytime you go bust.  Get's down to 5 of us in a game in which only 2 players ever rebought and it pays out to 3 places, third getting there money back.

Usually house games are pretty structured but if it's you and like 6 other guys and you throw a game together, then the rules should be thrown together as well.  When I play larger tournament that my friends are serious about we actually set up a whole list of rules, almost exact to the B&M rules (Casino Rules).  Like rule number 8:  No cell phones at the table.  These rules can actually be fun because when someone answers the phone you can muck their hand and say it's the rules, can't play on the phone.

How do you feel about rabbit hunting at all?  Was the SB guy in the right?  What do you guys think?

Everyone is entitled to his/her own morals and opinions.  The SB has the opinion that this was a well structured tournament and was probaly just mad that he was running bad.  I could see his view on it but next time I would say take a vote if the majority is yes, say ye, if the majority is no, say ne.  That should cover all the basics in a voting structure.

I feel rabbit hunting is fine if everyone is okay with it.  Personally I don't feel the need to see if my 6/2off was going to boat up, or hit a 4 card straight or flush.  It's actually very time consuming and delays the game so I'm a No No on the Rabitolo Huntersons.
