I was playing a $25 buyin 3 table 30 person trny, using a 5k starting chip blind structure, with blinds going up every 40 minutes.
This hand takes place very early, 5th or 6th hand early, the blinds are at 25-50. Lets say I, in the BB am seat 3, Seat 5 calls the BB, as do seats 8(Villian) and 1, the SB folds. In the BB Im holding 2 icon_suit_diamond.gif 3 icon_suit_diamond.gif and check.
Flop A icon_suit_heart.gif 4 icon_suit_diamond.gif 5 icon_suit_diamond.gif
First to act I lead out with 125
Seat 5 folds, Seat 8 raises to 250, Seat 8 folds
Action back to me re raise to 750
Seat 8 re riases to 1750
I call this raise
Turn 8 icon_suit_spade.gif
First to act I bet 1100
Seat 8 goes all in
I called
He turns over 88 for set on turn

Based on the following gut feeling, based on previous sessions with Seat 8, would you have done anything diff?
1. This player would not have been raising like this with a straight draws.
2. He views me as a loose agressive player who trys to bully alot of pots, and he is a high strung personallity that didnt like me pushing him around in previous sessions.

I dont want this to be a bad beat simpathy thread, I was just wondering if there is another way i could have played this hand, because several of my friends in the trny were saying this was not "that bad of a beat"

Thank you all,

Its not that bad a beat in the sense that seat 8 had 10 outs on the river, but he played it very poorly with that board and "deserved" to lose.

There are a lot of paths to the same point, but you got all the money in as a 3.5/1 favorite, so you played it fine.

The only other way I could see playing this hand is pushing all-in on the flop at some point. It wouldn't be a horrible move, you have the best hand and you have some draws.

Although with 5k starting chips and 40 min. blinds I don't think this would be a good move, because you have so much playing room with a structure like that. Why risk getting sucked out on when there's plenty of ways to get beat?

I prefer the way you played it, but it sounds like your table image screwed you on this one. (just because he'd probably play the hand differently against others)

This is a bad beat thread.

I would vote for pushing all-in on the flop. You have the nuts at this point, but you're very vulnerable to a bigger flush draw, or a set turning into a boat. You aren't pushing anybody off their set, but you'd be making them pay dearly for the chance to improve. I don;t see anybody calling here on a flush draw, and I don't see your opponent, even if he is fed up by your "bullying," calling an all-in with any pocket pair when there is an ace on the board.

Of course, this is a very results-oriented reply, and the vast majority of the time you slowly milk him of most of his stack instead of pushing him off his miracle draw, but even imagining different turn and river cards, with your flop call you put yourself in a pretty sticky situation if the board pairs or if a third diamond hits the board.

I've learned it's generally more fruitful not to post the results until you've gotten a good number of replies.

I do like the structure, I'm looking to play a more deep-stacked tourny (with slower blind increases) than I'm used to - was this online or B&M?

This was a live trny.
Thanx for the replies, moving all in on the flop was almost my play, the only reason i didnt was as you said trying to milk him a bit.
