Full Version: insane play during bears game....

3 seconds left in the first half.

The wind gusts are up to like 50mph during this game... so field goals are hooking out of bounds and stuff like that.

49ers take a shot at a last second field goal, and it hooks a little bit, and comes up short.

Nate Vasher catches the ball on the fly in the end zone and takes it 108 yards to score a touchdown with no time left in the half!!

Longest return of a FG in NFL history!!

This year? The Ravens don't play the Broncos this year? Ed Reed returned one like 106 yeards against Cleveland last year, but it wasn't at the end of the half I don't think. Either way, nice play today.

I'm just glad to see my home state Lions winning right now...but with them it'e never a sure thing until the final whistle blows.

It was like 2 or 3 years ago but basicly the same thing happened. The kicker missed and the player just caught the ball and ran down the field.

You can return it just like a block, as long as it stays in the field of play.

a missed FG since a made FG would go out of bounds. A short missed FG inbounds is like a punt, so therefor, it could be returned

What about a short made FG that doesn't hit the net or go out of bounds?

A short made FG would go out of bounds. The goal posts are right at the back of the end zones. In the CFL they are up at the front.

Can the defensive team have a guy stand on the uprights to try to block the FG?

about the Ravens return 2 years ago, Ray Lewis laid an absolutely SICK block on that play. hit the guy so hard he seperated his own shoulder on the play.

On the uprights no, but if you mean someone tying to jump to knock the football down on a long field goal try, yes it is legal to try to stop the ball that way.

Chris McCallister of the Ravens versus the Broncos in 2002. His return of a missed FG was 107 yards. Just saw it on ESPN.

Yeah, but on that play it took the broncos forever to realize he was trying to return it, most of them were just standing around.
Petoria
That was a pretty cool play. Everybody is talking about that play, but they're not talking about the fact that Benson tore his knee up and the Bears season is over and they may not win another game this year.

The Packers might still have a chance. laugh.gif laugh.gif

The Bears season was supposed to be over when Grossman went down.

That defense keeps them in every game they play.

Your defense can only take you so far. Some teams get by without a quarterback. Some teams get by without a running back. No teams get by with neither

What's sick is that I remember that hit more vividly than the return on that play.

Anyone else shocked by the fact that the NFC North went 4-0 yesterday?

Im not going to start on a rant about this ludicrous post by the usually solid Petoria, but......

Benson being injured means doesn't mean all that much to the Bears. He hasn't really done anything all season, and Peterson looked more than capable yesterday. Yes, it was against the 49ers, but the Bears have such a good defense it doesn't matter how poor their offense is. They will be in virtually every game they play this season.

And no, the Packers have no chance in hell this season.

Actually, Orton's pretty solid.

They keep the reins awful tight on him; play calling is incredibly conservative.

But all he does is keep them in the game.

They play field position football, don't kill themselves with turnovers and wait for the other team to make the mistakes.

Solid special teams + strong defense + offense that doesn't kill itself = A team that's going to win more than it loses.

On top of that, Orton's a pretty nice guy. I went to high school with him. We smoked cigarettes together in Advanced Chemistry. heh.
