MTT, blinds 200/400.

I am BB with around 3K holding 3 icon_suit_diamond.gif 8 icon_suit_spade.gif

Folds to Button, who raises to $800, leaving him $500.

SB folds

So $1400 in pot getting 3.5:1 to call. But he's pot-committed since he only has $500 left, so really it's like 2.5:1 to call. ($1900 in pot, $900 to call if he raises all-in to $1300)

So since it's 2.5:1, I folded.

Was this right or wrong?

You want to commit a third of your stack with 8-3 , then best of luck. Think about it again and I'm sure the answer will come to you.
ForRealDD
Throw your odds out the window with 8-3. Your in an MTT where the only thing that matters at this point for you is survival. Wait for a hand and go with it.

I think you made the right fold. It's great odds but you should have at least a T7 or so. You're in the red zone as it is and will be on the button in 2 hands.
I wait for a bit better spot, too.

Hey ForReal DD

When you're replying to a thread, unless
you're quoting something SPECIFIC from the
original post to which you're replying, please
don't quote the entire post.

Just "reply" is sufficient.

Thanks.

Get sidetracked at work. My apologies.

Say for the sake of argument I had 30K instead of 3K. My reasoning is if I get 3.5:1 I should call with the 8-3, but at 2.5:1 I should fold.

Is that logic right or wrong?

Thanks again for everyone's response.

NO you have 8 3! Come on, do you even have to ask.

It sounds like you are saying there is no need to ask because 83 is so weak he should auto-fold....wrong answer. At 3.5:1 and no stack considerations its an auto-call.

Tenesmus, your logic on the deep stack situation is correct, and you are also correct in the OP to consider your limited implied odds given that the BB is pot committed.

The only way you can play here is if you have a very strong read that BB is trying to steal but preserve some chips if he gets called, in which case he may fold to an all-in. Thats a ballsy move, since his bet could also mean that he is trying to maximize the value of a monster by not chasing the blinds out. Absent seeing how hes played prior hands I probably fold with a small stack, and call with a controlling stack despite the limited implied odds created by his small stack.
Swift_Psycho
I tend to fold here.
zimmer4141
If I had a larger stack, I would reraise him all in. However, I am committing too much of my stack here with 83, so I fold and wait to get all my chips in with a better hand.

i agree.

the main reasons to fold IMO are:
A) you have almost 0 fold equity, hes going to call no matter what he has unless hes a total donk.
cool.gif you lose fold equity for future blind stealing. a stack of 2800 after the blinds is a lot better than a stack of 1900 which you would have if your 83o somehow didnt win.
