Full Version: question about bodog

I just deposited today and played my first time on Bodog. I found it to be extremely loose. Remember I play 20-40 limit. I won a slightly over a grand in about 2hrs. I know I was at a "great table" and I know all about variance. Just had these questions......

Has anyone else experienced this? I remember someone once saying it was very loose because of the sports bettors having the cash and not really being poker players. If you have played on Bodog, I would like to hear any of your thoughts and comments. FCP Vets..any thoughts?

Yes, it's infested with donkeys... but they WILL suck out numerous times on you and make you go crazy. So be warned.

Bodog is the perfect place to find fish. It's ridiculous how bad the players there are. But be careful you aren't the only shark there.

Thanks for the reply Suited up. Yea I started out in the hole and just waited and the suckouts ended and I was able to make a nice score. I left when the "fish" left the table. He burnt through about $1600 real quick. He called me down with TEN high one hand. I was like....WTF...then YEAH BABY!

I haven't played there in awhile.... but when I did, there was a lot more NL tables than limit, so i'm not sure how much it's changed.

I play measly limits compared to yours, so I'm not sure how much it changes. But yea, the players on there are terrible. But then again, low limit players are bad at every site except on FT. So who knows?

Anyone know how the sports book works there? As in if you place a bet and win does the money all of a sudden show up in your account and vice versa? Thanks

As soon as the event is "graded" it is deposited into your account, usually 1-2 hours after football

Just curious, since I've never gone above 10-20. What's your typical stake when you sit down at a 20-40 table?

My buy in? I buy in for $1000 usually. Sometimes $800 just to mix it up.

Hey ncperrotta,

You may want to change your avatar. Someone else on here already uses that one, GrinderMJ.

Be warned!

Thanks

Not sure if I want to go back down that road again but if I do I think I"ll do it through an online site instead of dealing with bookies/friends

hey all...I tried Bodog a few times and find it to be one of the worst sites for poker. As unanimously stated, it is a fishing hole. My guess is that they market their site to be hip and cool for younger players to join. Younger players who have little clue of how to actually play the game. They keep spending until they catch a hand. Suckouts will happen no matter where you go, but they seem all too common on Bodog.

When you can find a game at 1/2 or 2/4, they're usually fairly loose. I was just at a table so loose I got too frustrated, was on the verge of tilt and had to leave. Don't be surprised if the flops seen % is above 40%. 2/4 seemed to be the same. NL is always very loose usually.

It can be tough to find a game sometimes for full ring, though there's always a couple short handed 1/2 tables going.

Hope that helped!

Limit's really not really very popular at Bodog (usually only 1-2 tables at each level), but yeah the players are pretty loose. Personally, I like that, though I don't play much Limit on there anymore.

brad, do you go by specbrad on there? I'm on there pretty often at .5/1 NL. I'd love to come watch you play the higher limits.

I have been on Bodog for a little while now. Yes, the players are the weakest I have seen on any site (Party Poker is pretty close though). I mentioned on a different thread that many of the players are there for the sports betting. Bodog also has a casino, which I am sure is popular. The majority of the players view poker as just another form of gambling. It's almost impossible to find more than a couple solid players at any table (Fixed Limit and NL).

The only part of the site I suggest staying away from is the SNGs. They exist mostly to keep the fishies happy there. Players start with 1000 chips, and blinds go up every ten hands. 5/10 10/20 20/40 30/60 50/100 100/200 200/400...

I have a Bodog account just for sports betting, and I tried downloading their poker software, but I didn't like it. You have to actually look at the chips to see what people are betting, and it takes way too much focus just to follow the action. Also, when I was on there, the players weren't any worse than on Party and it was a lot tougher to find a game.

Just my two cents.
CobaltBlue
iggy, in the options, you can turn on "Show Bet Text".

And, Bodog seems to have altered their MTT format. You start with 1,500 chips, but the blinds are still the same (start at 5/10). It's likely to add a bit more skill to the process.
