I was Just reading the "My name is Earl" post and felt that i just had to start a Kevin Smith Thread, its the way Big Kev would want it LOL.
The Very first Time i saw Chasing Amy, which was the first Smith film that id come across in around 98 i knew id stumbled across something... I thought Affleck was adequate enough but Jason Lee i thought was Excellent, some really Spikey Dialogue in that film made it a cult classic.
So what are your Favourites... Film, quotes just anything really im feeling random enought this evening.
I have to say Liv Tyler was sooo Hot in Jersey Girl the whole Librarian look she had going on OUCH!
And the one thing that i just cant ever watch is The Scene is Chasing amy (altho its my fav film) is the scene when affleck tells Alyssa how he feels about her, is it just me or does that make anyone else cringe??
Lol not the most well constructed post but never the less u get the point!!

That is a very weak scene, it's corntacular.
As for classic scenes/lines,: "Applesauce B1tch" "Butt****ing Brady Bunch" "Dude, I think I just filled the cup". Well that covers "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". I'll come up with some more good ones eventually.

He doesnt make Classics, he damn well knows he's getting no Oscar nominations... But for sure his films attract a massive following, theyre non-sensical and just easy to get along and watch, and with the amount of people who smoke drugs these days! i bet Kev is laughing all the way to the bank and at the "Minority". Clerks is still his best effort, the 10th anniversary edition DVD is definitely worth the purchase. Mallrats is his greatest blunder...hilarious movie, yet marketed terribly and edited terribly. The original version would have been much funnier. Chasing Amy has some great moments, some good dialogue. Dogma is good, not great. Never saw Jersey Girl, was that any good?
There's a Kevin Smith DVD that he made following a tour he had around the U.S., speaking at different colleges. It's worth seeing.

O you have to believe that the majority of the time, with the exception of Jersey Girl that he most certainly did lol.
And to who ever it was that hasnt yet seen Jersey Girl, well worth a view in my opinion altho not ur usual kevin smith-esque Humour, its alot more of a heart felt film which he made around the time his father was in ill health and eventually passed away.... Hes a father and a husband now and i believe is quoted as saying if he ever doned the "Silent Bob Jacket" again you'd be well within your rights to shoot him lol.
perhaps hes moving in an different direction these days, that remains to be seen.
Anyways keep the thread alive in my abscence im off down to my local to catch up and have a few beers and chat Poker, i look forward to reading some interesting posts in the morning.. have fun.

I LOVE KEVIN SMITH! My name is Earl has nothing to do with Kevin Smith except for Jason Lee.
The best Kevin Smith movies are Clerks and Dogma.
The only real flaws with Clerks is the low budget (some of the actors are not really actors. ) The screen play is awesome.
Then there is Dogma. Dogma is pure genius. I was raised Catholic (and was not allowed to be confirmed after 8 years of CCD classes) so Dogma really struck a chord with me. Not only is Dogma my favorite Kevin Smith movie but I would always put this movie on my top 10 list.
Mallrats was OK, not great, not bad. Chasing Amy was good but not something I could watch over and over again. Jay and Silent Bob strikes back was pure fun. Jersey Girl, in my oppinion, was not Kevin Smith. The movie got delayed so many times for editing. I think it was over edited to make it commercial. The result was pretty weak ( and I love chick flicks, but even for a chick flick, it lacked a lot substance.)
Kevin Smith is working on 2 films now:
The Green Hornet
The Passion of the Clerks
The Passion of the Clerks is Clerks 10 years later. I can't wait to see that!

My Favourite is Dogma, folled by Mallrats, then Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, then Clerks, and Chasing Amy. I also have yet to see Jersey Girl.
I will not justify my choices, but I stand by them.

Im aware that Kevin Smith has nothing to do with My name is Earl, just saw your thread and Picked out Kev's name and thought... She's on to something here and in the interest of fairness thought id give your thread a shout out. That and the fact id just finished watching Chasing Amy again, and felt all nostalgic.
Id say that you have a good eye for choice there, if your going to be critical of each film and take them on their merits then id say you where spot on with your choices.
Chasing Amy holds alot of special memories for me so thats Why it gets the nod for my top spot, however if im choosing on basis of the quality of film then for sure its Dogmna and clerks.
And one final thought, you say you Love Kevin Smith, so who's it to be Kev Or Layne ??? LOL.

Passion of the Clerks, I honestly can't wait. I think he's going to be retiring Jay and Silent Bob though, after that movie. Huge mistake in my opinion.

It's very much worth seeing even if you are not a fan, he is a great storyteller and he has so many funny stories about the business from an everyday guy's point of view.
Some highlights are when he was hired to write a script for a new superman movie where superman could not fly, or have his traditional outfit. The filming of the documentary for Prince, and stories of meeting his wife and her getting hurt while preforming a little oral pleasure. There is a ton of funny stuff on it.
I like all of his movies, I don't bother ranking them though as I like them for each for different reasons.

Huge Mistake maybe, alot of people i know became fans of his work through the humour he employed in the majority of his films and the clever little cameo's of Jay and Bob.
But at the end of the day can he do that forever and feel like he ever achieved anything worth critical acclaim, as i said before fatherhood and age tend to change a man and that seems to be where hes going with his new choice of productions... However im sure he wont forget what got him into the lime light in the first place... The man still has his sense of Humour!!!

Actually, according to View Askew mythology, they're cousins through their mutual cousin Walter.
QUOTE
Dante Hicks: Embolism in a pool, what an embarrassing way to die.
Randal Graves: That's nothing compared to how my cousin Walter died.
Dante Hicks: How did he go?
Randal Graves: He broke his neck.
Dante Hicks: You call that embarrassing?
Randal Graves: He broke his neck while trying to suck his own dick
QUOTE
Brodie: One time my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at the local mall, so the whole fiasco wound up on the news. It was embarrassing for my relatives and all. But the next week, he did it again. Different cat, same results, complete with a trip to the emergency room. Then, last week, I saw him in the pet store. He was buying another cat. I said, "Walt, what the hell are you doing, you know you're just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don't you knock it off?" And he says to me, "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy.
QUOTE
Brandi: Second suitor, would you ever make whoopie in public?
Brodie: I already did once today.
[clicks his finger at Renee]
Brodie: But my cousin Walter jerked off in public once. True story. He was on a plane to New Mexico when all of the sudden the hydraulics went. The plane started spinning around, going out of control, so he decides it's all over and whips it out and starts beating it right there. So all the other passengers take a cue from him and they start whipping it out and beating like mad. So all the passengers are beating off, plummeting to their certain doom, when all of the sudden, *Snap* the hydraulics kick back in. The plane rights itself and it land safely and everyone puts their pieces or, whatever, you know, away and deboard. No one mentions the phenomenon to anyone else.
Gil Hicks: Well, did he cum, or what?
Brodie: Jesus Christ, man. There's just some things you don't talk about in public.

The Prince and Superman stories were classic.... he is a great story teller, he'd take a question and ramble on and on for an hour, completely sidetracking, but funny.

Brodie : Lois could never have Superman's baby. Do you think her fallopian tubes could handle the sperm? I guarantee he blows a load like a shotgun right through her back. What about her womb? Do you think it's strong enough to carry his child?
T.S. Sure, why not?
Brodie: He's an alien for Christ sake! His kryptonian biological makeup is enhanced by Earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan, the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom . . . that would kill them.
-----
Rene : I have always taken you with a grain of salt. On your birthday, when you asked me to do a striptease to the theme from Mighty Mouse, I said okay. When we were at that hotel prom night, and you asked me to sleep underneath the bed in case your mother burst in, I did it. And, even when we were at my grandmother's funeral and you told most of my relatives that you could see her nipples though her burial dress, I let it slide. If you think that I'm gonna suffer anymore of your sh1t with a smile now that were broken up, you're in for some serious fukcing disappointment!
Banky : I'm telling you that chick is probably a bigger germ farm than that monkey in Outbreak.
Lol, few of my Favourites.

That made my day, seriously! I used to play EQ (Everquest for the non-MMO gaming geeks) and while raiding one day a friend and I each put on our copy of Clerks and proceeded to quote a bunch of the funny lines to our group, they thought we were actually having a conversations about giving BJ's in the parking lot.

I know I'll be in the minority on this one, but not only am I a big fan of Kev's, but I'm a big Affleck fan also.
I think that the monologue where Holden confesses his feelings for Alyssa in Chasing Amy is some of Kevin's best writing. Not only does Affleck nail that scene, but Joey's reactions are perfect.
Jersey Girl, I thought, was a very underrated film. Yet another fantastic performance by Affleck, and George Carlin was incredible. I knew he was funny, but I had no idea he could act like that.
