Another bad mark on the record of White Sox fans. Man, first you have all the incidents where fans run onto the field and attack players/coaches, and now this...

I've actually never heard of anyone being a Royals fan until you.

this has nothing to do with me being a Royals fan. It has to do with the tainted reputation of White Sox fans. I mean, this incident is just disgusting, and not the first example of a fan at Comiskey Park ( I know, I forgot the actualy name, I am just using Comiskey instead..) doing something cowardly.

Also, where do you live?? It is probably not in Missouri or Kansas, and thus, of course you don't know any Royals fans. I have never in my life met a Toronto Blue Jays fan. Does this mean they don't exist!?!?!?!?

IDIOT.

The fans at White Sox games are notorious for being some of the rudest and most drunken people around baseball. This type of thing happens quite a bit more at Chicago then it does anywhere else. Wilbon just talked about it on PTI and said this type of thing is typical of White Sox fans and that it was embarrassing. Also, I have been to several Royals-ChiSox games in KC and the White Sox fans were exceedingly obnoxious and one grown man even threw a beer on an 11 year old kid because the kid cheered "too annoyingly" (his words) when the Royals scored. [No, the 11 year old kid was not me, this was just last year...] So, of course not all White Sox fans are like this, but they do seem to be guilty of this sort of thing WAY more often than any other set of fans.

don't worry, you'll be in the double digits soon enough...
custom36
Don't worry, I'm sure if the Royals had a bunch of fans, a few of them would act like morons too. The simple truth is, it's a numbers game. More fans = more idiots.

White Sox - 100,000 fans
Idiots acting up - 4 fans
% of idiot White Sox fans acting up - 0.04%

Royals - 100 fans

If we apply the same % to Royals fans, 0.04%, it will take 1000 years before they have 4 fans acting up.

Isn't math great?

DOH! Busted. Good one. Seriously though, White Sox fans are pathetic.
Jadaki
Idiots who put every person in a catagory based off the actions of a few are the really pathetic ones.

Most people in that state cheer for the Cardnials anyway, Royals fans are few and far between.

Wrong. "Most" people don't cheer for the Cardinals in the state of Missouri. It is just that Royals fans are "quieter" b/c the Royals are losing and the Cardinals are winning. Trust me, in the early part of '03, there were ALOT more Royals fans that just magically appeared. So, yeah, the Cardinals SEEM to be more popular right now, but really, whichever team is doing better at the time is more popular (except for in the St. Louis and Kansas City areas, of coures....). I am sure you will say I am wrong about this, but whatever, I have been living in this state for a long time, so, whatever.
Jadaki
Yea, I just happen to live close enough to the state to know, i also take 3-4 trips to KC a year and it's pretty sad when in KC you see more people wearing Cardinals gear than Royals gear. I'm not a Royals fan, I go to thier games occasionally because I get free tickets, I haven't been to a sold out game there since Bo Jackson was playing.

I have also seen Royals fans doing retarded shit like fighting in the stands with people wearing the other teams jersey, so don't act like Royals fans are all high and mighty. If you really want to pick on a teams fans for doing dirty stuff at games, try the Raiders.

A. Yeah, more people wear Cardinals gear right now, you just proved my point.

B. Well, the Chi-Sox v. Royals game I went to this summer was pretty close to sold out, so......I don't know. Yeah, attendance is down b/c they suck. Did I ever say they were the most popular team??? No.

C. Yeah, Royals fans fight with other teams fans occasionally in the stands, that happends with every team, and yes it is bad, but it is NOT NEARLy as bad as two fans running onto the field to attack an elderly third base coach or a fan slapping a woman and then running away, or a fan dumping beer on a little child....this stuff happens at Chicago alot more than it happens anywhere else...so, whatever.
Jadaki
I had a drunk idiot royals fan dump a beer on my son then start a fight with my brother in law because he was wearing a cubs hat, but since you live in Chicago and go to all the White Sox games I will defer to you since you are obviously the expert. Or wait, your just spouting off random shit like normal.

I'm not going to bother including the sarcasm warning.

I have never been to a White Sox game. However, I do have several friends from Chicago, and I read/watch the news. I saw fans run onto the field and attack a player..IN CHICAGO. I saw a CHICAGO fan pour beer on an 11 year old kid at a game. I read an article on ESPN about a CHICAGO fan slapping a woman at a CHICAGO WHITE SOX game. I never hear about major incidents happen to other teams as much as this...
bleacherbum3
Gotta say, I don't always agree with Koop, but I respect that he sticks with his Royals and doesn't abandon ship because they stink right now.

And it's not a generalization, the majority of Sux fans are scumbag, low-class, white trash drunken idiots. That, and 250 pound women with 5 or more tattoos.

It does make me sick walking around Chicagoland these days seeing all the Sux shirts and hats, all brand new of course, because they just became "fans" 2 weeks ago when playoffs started.

I mean I want to root for a winner too, but I won't degrade myself to buy gear for a team I don't really like.
mk
You know, it's funny.

I've been to somewhere in the neighborhood of 200 White Sox games in my life, and I have never once witnessed an incident that in any way would reflect negatively upon White Sox fans. I suppose I'm just lucky.

On the other hand, I've been to somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 Cubs games and there I've witnessed numerous fights, watched raucous groups of drunken, balding thirty-somethings swear their heads off with kids all around them. And this year at a Cubs/Cards game I saw a frat guy puke onto the row of people in front of him. Class acts.

Bleacherbum, you want to think you're better than us, but sadly, you aren't. This article debunks the myth of white trash sox fans and yuppie cubs fans. Seriously, don't ever condescend to Sox fans again. But please, continue cheering for a team that has no chance of winning. Ever.

Good luck next year.
KowboyKoop
fan attacks third base coach....fan attacks umpire _____ Diaz (forgot his first name..), fan slaps woman that is rooting for opposing team.

three examples, all occuring in the past three years or so, all IN CHICAGO (WHITE SOX STADIUM).

but yeah, this kind of thing happens everywhere else to, I guess the other teams are just better at HIDING it....

-remember when those eight fans attacked Sammy Sosa in the outfield last year!?!?!

-remember when fans in Houston attacked Jeff Bagwell with canes!?!?!

-remember when fans spit on the Florida Marlins players after losing to the Washington Nationals

-remember Tigers fans throwing rocks at Ivan Rodriguez for not drawing any walks!?!?

-remember the Montreal Expos!?!?!?!??!?!?

oh, yeah, that's right, none of that stuff except for the ChiSox stuff (and Expos) happened. My bad, you're right, the ChiSox fans don't have a growing reputation as the worst fans in baseball. Good one.

Haha typical sCrUB fan talking. I'd like to hear more about the racial remarks that go on in the bleachers at Wrigley. And for the most part people that go to sCrUB games are just there to be there, they don't go watch the sCrUB games.
BilliardsBoy
I really don't see what the big deal is about slapping some chick. But I'm from Philly, so maybe drunk crowds and mass violence are common to me [sw].

I'm proud to live in a city that was the first to put in a court room right inside the stadium to immediately deal with the idiots. Nice.

The article on Sox/Cubs fans was real interesting though.
mk
Let's just say that this type of situation tends to get blown out of proportion. The "fans" running onto the field in '03 and '02 is an obvious exception. But even these incidents were people who weren't "fans" but merely people trying to get on television. Sad degenerates.

Here is the press release Biggio's wife released today:

Patty Biggio, wife of Houston second baseman Craig Biggio, issued the following statement in light of having been assaulted Sunday at U.S. Cellular Field:

"It was an unfortunate incident that seems to have been blown out of proportion. It was dealt with appropriately by security. We think it is time that everyone put the situation behind them and focus on enjoying the World Series."

From my personal experience, which includes 100+ Sox games and about 25 or so Cubs games, the Cubs fans ar much worse. So, it isn't all on the Southside.
