final 15 or so in $10 stud 8 tourney on stars

my thinking was that if I can limp with this hand its worth it to see if I can catch on 4th, and its an easy fold if I miss. Once I caught a pair on 4th I bet to get some people out, once he raised I figured he had a good low hand, and then I put him in on 5th since he had so few chips left. Did I make the right play here? I guess I could have check called on 4th, but I dont really see a way that all my chips and all his chips don't end up in the pot.

also, for anyone intersted, I just ran this hand through an odds calculator, and when the chips went in I was a slight favorite to win the high, but he would scoop this pot about 40% of the time, while I only have about a 20% chance to scoop this pot, with a split the rest of the time

This is not really a premium starting hand. Probably folding on 3rd is correct, but if you're going to play, raise 3rd and hope to pick up the antes, especially in a tournament where just about any hand you play could be for all your chips.

If he calls your raise on third, then you can check-fold 4th after he catches the 6. You're not critically shortstacked, so there's no need to push such a marginal hand. You want to wait for a better opportunity to get your chips in.

Dingas indicates that it is not a premium starting hand (which I agree with), but it is a good starting hand considering the low number of low cards showing. If you are going to play this fairly strong one-way drawing hand, you need to raise third street, to get rid of the chaffe. The villain wouldn't have folded anyhow, but you can't use results-oriented thinking to justify your play. Next time, bring that in for a raise.

The rest of the hand plays itself, due to the chip stacks. 8)
