I dont play stud much. I think heads up, I probably should've just let this hand go because villian was most likely already there with a better low than I could even draw too, and if I do make my hand, I'm only getting half the pot, and if don't improve, its easy for him to catch a pair of deuces to scoop. Let this hand go on 6th street, right?

you should have folded on third. That hand is shit multiway. Two spades and an 8 are out so you really have nothing to work on.

Yeah, fold 3rd. That limp would be bad in stud hi, and it's even worse in hi/lo.

Do not play hands with an 8 in them, especially when the 8 is showing (there are exceptions - but as a starting point, use this as your first rule).

For the sake of argument, lets say that you HAD to play this hand on third street.

Fourth street is a clear bet. You want to make the K7 and the 93 pay to play, plus the 3 caught an 8, which is a bad card. You may have won it right there with a bet at those stakes.

You didnt bet fourth street, so now you are hooped on 5th. You gave the other players a free card, and at least two of them caught good to their probable hands (the 9 probably has a nine buried, or another pair, and now has 2 pair, the three hearts guy isnt going anywhere, especially since all three are 8 or less).

6th street - you are now chasing only the high half (with your flush or possibly trip 2's).

7th street - you missed. Everything. Do not call that bet. You CAN raise it, if you think your opponent is the type to put in a bet on the end when they missed, but it is a clear fold if you don't raise.

If you want to learn the game, I suggest moving down in limits, and play on Absolute or paradise (low/no antees). 8)

I think 6th street would have been the best place to fold. He has board lock on the low, and could have you scooped with a flush.. You never want to be drawing dead to both halves of the pot. I also agree that a starting hand with an 8 in it is weak. Unless you have 678, 568, 578 or 3 suited babies with an 8 in it, avoiding starting hands with an 8 in it is probably best.

Way to many beginning players think that any three cards 8 and less is a good hand... sad.gif

Something else to consider - the fact that seat 1 doesn't put in a bet with his low until 6th street make it slightly more likely that he has paired up on 4th or 5th.

I fold this on 3rd, and failing that fold on 7th.

Also just for good measure I fold this on 6th.
