Played 5 handed .25/.50 NL last night
average stack was around $40, I had around $35 and Aseem had around $60 and was directly to my left
I'm UTG(?) with AJo
I raise preflop to $2.00, Aseem calls, Button calls, SB folds, BB calls.
Flop: J-T-x rainbow
check, I bet $6, Asseem calls, Button and BB fold.
Turn: K (I think the board now has two clubs).
I bet $12, Aseem asks me to count my chips (I had $17 left), and he calls.
River: x
I ... ?
BTW, maybe Aseem can fill in the gaps in the board and correct my mistakes about bet sizes. I'm terrible at remembering live hands.

Push, whenever someone asks me to count my chips and than just call I often figure they want to go for a bluff or have some kind of marginal holdings but either A. Realize i'm committed to the pot or B. Have to many chips for them to risk by putting me all in with something marginal.

We're up against a good player here. I don't think this necessarily has to be true.

Usually when Aseem wants a chip count, he's trying to figure out his implied odds. I think he should work on estimating stack sizes by sight because I get information about his hand when he asks me to count my chips.
He could do use this for misdirection though, but I haven't seen him do it yet.
I was able to put him on a medium PP in another hand last night because I saw him quickly counting my chips when I made a standard preflop raise. I knew he was trying to figure out if he had odds to play for a set.

obviously not this hand, huh? :-)
nah, i ask people for counts whenever i need to guage what kind of future action i should be ready for. sometimes it's for implied odds, but not all the time.
but you're right, i should work on estimating it better without a count. though, a count is also helpful for intimidation or when i want to make a specific bet relative to villian's stack.

any other opinions on river action?
what do you think aseem has?
someone suggested pushing because aseem wants to bluff. but why wouldn't we let him bluff if our hand is good?
(btw, aseem, do i have bet sizes approximately correct?)

i like checking here
you cant really bet w/o pushing, but i think you'd hate to get called since its likely your beat if he does call. i'd put him on somethin like AK, AJ, A10, KJ, or K10. doubtful a set...i think a set would raise that straight draw on the turn. possibly a draw but that doesnt seem likely either.
so yeah, i'd check and hope he checks behind. if he bets, probably fold (depending on the read tho).

I pushed because I put you on a range of hands. Some had showdown value and were worse than my hand. Also, I thought you might call, since you really hated it when I bluffed you the other week.

I don't like this push on the river.
There are many situations, where you or your opponent doesn't have many chips left, so you know you will calling them all off on the river if opponent pushes, so you might as well push and extract value when you are ahead. But those situations are when your opponent will call with a worse hand, when you have the majority of his hands he'll show down beat.
This cannot be one of those situations, especially given you are against a thinking opponent. This is one of those situations where, for the most part, if you bet, your opponent will only call with a better hand, or fold a worse hand. Really, he shouldn't be calling with QJ here, you are lucky that he played the hand horribly and didn't make the correct decision on the turn.
Really, in this spot, a check on the river is best, but you have to call a bet. You already made up your mind on the turn that you were playing this hand to showdown, given how much you bet, how much was in the pot, and now only holding 17$ left, its an automatic call if he pushes when you check the river.
If you have a pair of kings or better, I push the river. Just think about the range of hands he can call you with on the river, they really shouldn't be much worse than AJ.
I could be wrong though.
