ok..nothing fancy.
But I thought I played this well; and if not want to nip it in the bud.

Button is 23/8/5.3 after 90 hands

I Likey in many spots. This is a good one.

I think it's played fine. It might be a very thin value bet against somebody you know that will pay you off with Ace High, but then again you really don't want to be raised here either, so check/calling is fine also.

I like it.

I find it strange that this villian called all the way.
I think you'll induce a lot of bluffs against this player. Nice hand.

trying to learn LHE after only a week and a half or so... so pardon the ignorance of this question:

Why not bet the river? Because you dont want to be raised here, as you may be way behind?

Thanks,

There might be value from AK/AQ callnig
But with this playes aggression post flop ( 5.3 ) he tends to bet rather than call. Thus I'm more likely to win 1 more BB by letting him bluff a losing hand than by betting, and he folds. Or if he has a hand that beats me, I want to show down my 9's w/o givng him a chance to raise me now - either with a Bluff or KJ for example.

It comes down to:
1. Will he call with a worse hand
2. Will he raise with a better hand
3. Will he raise with a worse hand
4. Will he bet with a worse hand
5. Will he bet with a better hand

given he was yet to riase me, I thought I was ahead, given he is aggressive. So I figure let him "bluff" and also my hand was not too strong and calling a raise would be difficult.

i dont know...

most aggressive players check behind with A-big. Im too lazy to really think about it but a river bet looks close.

I think an aggressive player with his numbers bets more hands than he calls with.

The only hands I think we lose value to by check/calling here is 77 (and maybe a hand like A6).

I'd consider myself an aggressive player and if I was the button with AK, I'd be checking behind and taking the free showdown hoping it's good.

I think a value bet comes down to reads here, typically aggressive players will raise any pair on the flop to try and take control of the hand. From the looks of it I'd have my opponent usually on 2 big cards when he just calls down like this. I'd have probably value bet in this spot thinking I'll get a call from Ace high. Check/call is fine as well and if your not confident in your reads, it's best to go that route.

Just because you consider yourself aggressive and you would check behind here with AK, does not mean that this player will check behind here with that hand.

I think a player with an AF of > 5 is not a good player. Unlike you, I don't think this guy will take the time to consider what his opponent may be holding. He will probably bet AK here for the same reasons he would probably raise a TPWK against a tight opponent who has shown some strength. He is simply too aggressive. I want to take advantage of this natural tendancy in the exact opposite way of a player who is too passive. Against a passive player, you would value bet many weaker hands because he'd call with weaker hands. Here, I will use his naturally aggressive tendency against him.

I think just about any player who would bet AK on the river would also call with AK.

I think this is wrong for a lot of reasons.

I think _most_ players who would bet with AK would call with AK.
If he's going to bet with it though, you havent missed out on any bets by checking for that particular hand.

I think there are more times that he bets with worse than there are times that he calls with worse, and i think you have him beat more often than not. He at least calls with all better hands, and occasionally raises.

Given that, i'd check.

He had AK
He checked.
I did consider he migh be slowplaying a J, a flush, something because calling down was not his style.

I honestly think he folds if I bet.
The pot was small and I showed aggression the whole way.
Another somewhat likely thing: He raises. I didn't have the read to call that.
