I enjoy watching his antics sometimes, but it has always bothered me too that he won't remove his glasses.
He wore them at the E3 show and apparently he claims that his contract with Oakley precludes him from being seen without them any time he is in public.
Even if that is true, you would think that he could ask for and get some kind of exception/exclusion if he is appearing on national TV for example.
Seems like just waaaaaay to much ego for that boy!

The guy's a doucheclown, that much I'll admit.
He is, however, good for poker as a whole. Every sport
needs that type of character guy to drag in the "everyman"
But ya, the whole sunglass thing is retarded.
How'd you like to be him, where your whole life
revolves around pleasing the loser executives
at the company that sponsors you?
Sure the money would be nice, but fuck that
where I can't be outside without sunglasses if I feel like it.

Worse then that is being inside and not being able to remove them?
If he really signed such a stupid clause then he is dumber than I gave him credit for.

He didn't. Internet legend has him going cross eyed after a particularly bad beat. He is embarrassed by that.

Ron, I thought it was after that night in Tijuana with you, the goat, and 4 gallons of tequila.

Last week, I was foraging for an old article, written by Ted Forrest for Phil's website, and ran into this:
http://www.greentiepoker.com/gallery.asp?gallery_id=3
A photo gallery of Phil's birthday party. The numbnut is still wearing his hat, sunglasses, and windbreaker (always zipped up to the very top, of course). Who told him he looked cool like this?

He is dead serious, but he didn't go cross eyed the way Ron tells it.
He was being probed in the ass by Ron and Royal at the same time, with Ron on the left and Royal on the right and he tried to look at both of them at the same time.
That's how he got cross eyed!

Wouldn't they be more likely to deny an exemption for an appearance on national tv-- a time when they would get the most exposure?

Who knows? More importantly who cares?
I don't think it matters because unless the cameras focus on him at just the right angle where you can see the Oakley logo nobody except an Oakley owner will even know which brand he is wearing, so what difference does it make?
I would think they would be much stricter at events where the public can actually come up to him, because there is where they can see what kind of goofy glasses he is wearing.

Its not a true FCP day until the Hellmuth bashing is under way.
The fact that you are all discussing him is the reason why Phil has his funny little get-up on.....he digs the attention and he knows how profitable it is....
This guy has somehow made himself into a franchise by being....well.,....phil.
I think the hat and sunglasses is a great look for him....better than his shirtless yoga cameos on ESPN.
