Quick. What are the odds of flopping a set when you hold a pair before the flop in Omaha?

And what are the odds of hitting a flush by the river when you have four to a flush (and no extra flush cards in you hand) on the flop?

Answers below, but try to think of it yourself first.

Flopping a set is 7.13 to 1 against.

Flushing by the river is 1.75 to 1 against.

Why are these odds different than Hold'em. Because your hand consists of four cards, so there are two fewer unknown cards in the deck, thus a higher chance you'll hit the card(s) you need.

This might be obvious to some of you or very basic info to others, but I didn't realize this until I was reading an argument on a thread the other day. Don't use the Hold'em probabilties for draws or you'll be underestimating your equity.

For the set, you might as well include quads, so the chance that you "hit" is actually 7.17:1 :-)

Also note that if you kill 2 of the flush outs (with blockers or by holding a set for example) the odds on the flush making a winning hand drop to 2.45:1

Something to think about next time you want to go to war on the flop.
