Okay, these two hands are going to be bothering me for a while, and I'd like to get some feedback on my play.

Hand #1

I have J J K K in the big blind. Three limpers, the button raises, SB folds, I call, three limpers fold. Flop J 2 8. I bet the pot, about $28, 3 folds, and the button calls. The turn is the K .

What would you do here?

The button was someone who would always raises A2, and I'd seen him call bets trying for a back door low, so I didn't necessarily put him on the flush draw, I bet the pot again, and he re-raised all in, which was only about $15 more, and I called. Of course he had A A Q 6 . The river was a 4, and he scooped.

Hand #2
I have K 9 9 4 from the small blind. 4 limpers, I complete, BB checks. Flop was K 9 2 . I lead out for about 3/4 of the pot, and was called by a player in late position. The turn was the 2 . I bet the pot, and late position re-potted. I thought he might had K2, or be making a very bad play with a flush, so I re-potted, which put him all in. I was right about the flush, he had J high flush, unfortunately he also had 22 for quads. Did I miss play this one.

Hand 1:

I think you check the flop there. A nut-low draw isn't going anywhere, nor is the nut-flush. You cannot protect your hand there IMO (I play low limits, so maybe its different with whatever you are playing).

Hand 2:

Don't complete with this crap. I USED to complete with just about anything from SB, but have found the error of my ways. The only thing you have going for your hand is the nines, so you have two outs to improve basically. You flopped a 9, AND a king, which makes it even harder for you to get a full house.

Just remember one thing, Set is a drawing hand. Especially when the board offers good flush and str8 completion possibilities. When the board holds one of your another 2 cards, your chance of completing a boat is even less.

Hand 1: you only have 4 outs to scoop on the river, and are probably way behind. Check fold or maybe call a (very) small bet. In fact I think you should not have bet this on the flop - A3 spades is not going to go anywhere with this flop. If no one bets it and the board pairs on the turn you can charge the lows for drawing.

Hand 2: I think I saw this hand. That is garbage to compelte with. If you had it in the BB, his re-pot after the 2 comes should tell you you are beat, and quite probably with quads (since you have 3 of the 6 other boat cards)

I'm assuming if I check the flop on hand #1, I'm going to call a bet?
Also, is KKJJos a hand that I should be calling a raise out of position with?



And on #2, I don't like to assume I'm up against quads, and I guess I didn't put him on KK since I had one. But I understand why I should be able to release this hand.

Calling one bet with that hand is fine I think, even out of position. Folding that hand from BB seems way too tight to me... 8)

With deep stacks I would call a bet here and pot any non-club brick on the turn, c/fold any low card on the turn or any non-pairing club. With small stacks, I would just shove it in now.

I call a raise OOP with this hand as long as the stacks are deep enough (>10x for comfort). I am 4:1 to hit a set on the flop, which gives me a good option to play for more. Obviously, you got just about the worst possible flop for your hand here.
