I play alot of mtt freerolls on absolute poker...2000 entrants top 18 pays. Anyway it usually takes about 20 minutes to narrow the field to about 500 and with in the first hour it is at 250 or so. My question is would the better stratgey be to play super tight and let all of the fish get out of the way so you dont get some crazy bad beat or play more aggressive early and try to get some of the "easy" money?

I think like $10 goes to first and only the final 2 tables get paid. It is definately a waste of time.

on absolute they have 1k and 5k freerolls that pay pretty good but besides the "waste of time" how would you play them??

Just try to amass a ton of chips early, (that doesn't mean play like a maniac)
or go out. There is no reason to try to grind it out when only the top 1% get paid.

It's so fun playing 4 for hours and busting out on the bubble.

Pokerroom, 2400 people, 500 added
1st. 75
2nd. 50
3rd 25.
Don't remember the rest but it's top 40.

I was bored one night and played one of those awful absolute freerolls. I went all in on the first five hands and won each one...it was sick beyond belief. I had over ten thousand in chips ten minutes into the tourney. Then i realized it was a waste of time and shut the game off and dug for change in my couch, realizing that i would probably make more money in less time.

A lot of times I will play in those free rolls as I am playing in a ring game. My problem with ring games is that after about 10 minutes of folding every hand my ADD(Attention Defeceit Disorder) takes over and I start playing like crap. If that happens, I just play like crap in the free roll and then I am playing like everybody else. Sometimes, I also play those free rolls for practice and to experiment with new ways of playing. Also, I use them to test my patience and work on my ADD.

Yeah, get involved early or don't bother. It's not worth playing 4 hours and then getting a dollar for coming in twelfth. You'd be better off spending the time earning money at a job and then depositing it so you can play some real poker.

I don't think the OP should be calling the other players fish, when hes also playing in a FREEROLL. If you're playing in a freeroll, you're probably a fish.

umm, no. It could also mean you're trying to get better at MTT's, or trying to build a bankroll. Some freerolls that you have to qualify for can pay out pretty good to the top 3.

Depends on the structure, most of them are going to be pretty fast though. I'd try to double up early with big hands, don't be afraid to take a coin flip early to get some chips. Only the top couple spots are going to pay much.
