I'm wondering what % of a total bankroll is good for tourney buy in and ring games...

so, what percentage for...
sit n' go
mtt
ring

???

I just want to make sure I'm playing within my bounds.

Usually you'll want 50 buy in's for MTT's , 30 buy in's for SNG's and 300 BB's for limit ring games. I could be off for MTT's but I think it's a good estimate.

I won't argue with that.

OK, so tell me if this sounds right then...$140 bank right now up from $60 original...

I should play
$3 buy in MTT's
$5 buy in S n Go's
And $.25-.50 blind ring games?

Ring games I've been right on if that's true, but the last 2 or 3 S n Go's I've played where $10 buy in, and my MTT's where usually $5, so I guess I was playing a little ahead of myself there.

rings, .25/.50 is close enough, yeah. Technically 20BB short, but who's counting.

SnGs again close enough for the $5s. $10s can be dangerous (you go on a 5 table losing streak, you're down to $90. Icky.)

As for MTTs, you might be a little light if you play alot of them. Maybe play 1 a week or so until you can build to $200 or $225 before hitting the $5s again.

I barely ever touch MTT's, only if I am going to be sitting around for a while and don't want to worry about losing anything larege...small buy in, play for a while, and who knows...

My usual games are Sit N' go's. I like the odds of coming out ahead and most of the bank I've gained in this short time has come from placing and/or winning in those.

I play ring game's once in a while, but I find most of the play for those in the online sites I like are way too sporadic, it gets annoying when someone stays in with 3-5 off suit and flops a full house to your AK getting 2 pair...

actually .25/.50 blinds would be .50/1.00 limit ring games. Remember that 300 BB's mean big bets not big blinds.

and for SNG's and MTT's I would also factor in your skill level and success with them. If you rarely cash in MTT's I would probably just not play in them until you get a bigger BR, or practice in the $1-$2 tournies.

I love those type of games, in the long run you will get paid off, you may take bigger swings but that's why you should stick within your BR. Read SSHE if you haven't done so already.

I've read Sklanksy, Brunson, Harrington, Gordon, Caro, etc...

I've been playing online free money for years, I had a few free money accounts up in the $50k range and it got boring, so I decided to actually go for money recently. I've been at it, pretty low key, for about 2 months now, maybe 3.

I just don't like to deal with those types of players in ring games...sometimes I will, but my main choice is Sit n' Go's, probably 80% of my hands are in those.

For y'all that stick to the 300BB rule, are you buying in for 30BB each session?

Personally, I like to buy in for 25 BB. So, I guess 250BB is okay for my roll.

anyone think that is wrong?

yes, i do (think it's wrong).

a downswing is a downswing. it can happen over one session or ten sessions or 25 sessions. it has nothing to do with how much you buy in for.
