position and chip stack size is key.
crazy players will change proportion of luck needed to win. The more crazies, the more luck you need, or no luck they need.

Write down as many hands as you can remember each time you play the tourny and reread these notes before the next one. You'll find more answers from your own observation than from general advise of a generic nature.

I've found that crazy loose players will catch obscure hands after calling your standard 3xbb bets with good hands, resulting in your getting beat by bad players. They also make some huge swings with poorly played hands that give them such chip advatages early that you are on the defensive and get whittled away

I see your point that playing solid should give you an edge over crazy players, but they seem to set the tone for the table in the early stages. If Poker was filled with justice, people calling with 3 outers would lose everytime.

So the luck I am saying you need is to get good hands early that hold up against bad calls. Most of this occurs early, as better play is stronger as the crazies use up thier wild luck.
