Full Version: moving up in limits

i know i know people are gonna cry and say "blah blah blah flame etc" so ill keep it short and sweet :

I started playing UB last week with 250 dollars, I played 1/2 until I had about 1100 then started playing 2/4. I could have put more in if I lost so 300BB for 1/2 whatever shutup.

Anyway, it has taken me about 4 days to turn that 250 into 2000 and is the best thing for me if I am learning how to play just to keep moving up as fast as my bankroll lets me? Or is it more productive to chill out at a level for a while before progressing to the next?

Right now I am killing 4 tables of 2/4 for a pretty big BB/100 however this is not over a large scale, it seems to be consistent with my 1/2 bb/100.

The question is, should I move straight up to 3/6 and then 5/10 or should I just bum around at 2/4 for a while?

Thanks,
Hoobiee

If you're crushing the game but can afford to move up, see if you can crush that too. The worst that happens is you have to come down if things aen't working out and you know that you can beat the games you'll have to come back to. Just play whatever level is making you the most money, if the skill at 3/6 is too much, droip down to where you are comfortable. I don't think you'll see much difference between 1/2 and 3/6 skill wise.

1/2 and 2/4 is unnoticable so far. Some people know free card plays, and there is slightly more preflop aggression in shorthanded games but that is about it. There is a bit more flop calling especially in HU play.

I don't notice that much, still a lot of fish in my opinion.

What levels do you play?

My aim is to get up to 5/10 by the end of the year, but dependant on skill level might try and get up to 10 / 20. I am playing maybe 5k hands a day and really learning a lot so we will see what happens.

If you have the BR for it and feel good about the game, then definitely move up and go for it.
WonderfulSplash
You are clearly on a rush right now and won't be able to keep up that pace, but im sure you know that. So, if your BR is big enough for 3/6 there is no reason not to move up, but don't be afraid to move back down if you hit some variance.

how are you 4 tabling and getting 5k hands a day, you playing for 20 hours at a time? just seems a little high

10 - 12 hours :S not that hard.

That's a lot of hours. I get burned out seeing like 2k hands a day,

you my friend....are a maniac!

how do you keep focus for so long without losing your cool?

10-12hrs and getting 5K hands still seems like a lot to me, but I don't doubt you if you say so.

Anyway, with 4 days of big profits each seeing 5K hands, variance is already in there, and you are obviously a better player than the limits you are playing. I would suggest moving up limits with your roll, but don't let the bigger game get to you. If you start losing in the bigger game, the hardest thing to do is go back down, it seems like it takes forever just to make it back, so go up carefully. Also, if you are 4 tabling, you might want to go down to 2 for the first few thousand hands, just so you can focus on the game better.

ok thanks for info, a lot of it makes sense.
