Hey gang,

Looking for some opinions on how to better play this hand.

I've got K icon_suit_spade.gif T icon_suit_spade.gif on the button. Villian is to my right and has been raising any pair, any A and any suited connector. I've outplayed him for a few smaller pots, and I think he's itching to get it on with me.

2/4 NL, my stack is 660, his 480.

Villain raises to 12, I call and all others fold.

Flop comes Q icon_suit_spade.gif 10 icon_suit_diamond.gif 4 icon_suit_spade.gif

He bets out 20, I call. I felt that a raise here would do one of two things. One, it would induce a push from an overpair or even a Q , which would be difficult to call because I feel I've been outmanuevering him in small pots and can continue to chop him down with superior 4th and 5th street play. Two, it causes a fold in a spot where my hand is quite good vs a lot of hands.

Turn is 9 icon_suit_heart.gif , giving me a gutshot to add to my outs, unless he holds AK of course.

This time he makes a weakish 50 bet, which is an amount I hate, because it often is the nuts. But I decide I'll test him and see. I raise to 200 flat.

he thinks for a minute and calls. Now, I don't believe he has a set or a straight, because he would likely push to protect vs the flush.

River is 2 icon_suit_spade.gif

he checks, I push.

Thoughts?

Not a big fan of the push on the end,
but I like the way you reasoned the rest of
the hand. I might try a 1/2 pot bet or something
of that nature. I think you want a call here.

I had to delete my other post, because I read what you did wrong. However, why does your reasoning change on the turn from what it was on the flop?

Not a fan of the pre-flop call with a trap hand...but I guess you've got position and feel you can outplay him.

because betting half the pot of $470 is $235 and puts the rest of his $200 all-in anyway...

I like the play, very deceptive, If he thinks he is slowplaying you here with AA, than you now have the rest of his money. Hard to put you on a flush draw when you raise the turn that big representing an already made hand.

I think he must have been slowplaying AA or AQ to call your turn bet, and at worst getting spiffy with JJ. dont think it was AK either, why would you call with AK here.

But what if the river came a blank that doesn't help you? now what?

Stylin, I think you understand how I was reasoning it out. The raise on 4th is mandatory IMO. You can't just call down and expect to be a winner with any consistency.

Cobalt, I should have mentioned this is short handed, 6 players. A hand like KTs in position vs. a loose raiser is one I will make a call with if I feel I play better post flop, and if I've been flopping somewhat nicely.

nh, I like the way you played every street.

river bet is good.

too many ppl think value betting in no limit on the river is the way to do everything.

i like the push here.

Ah. Yes, that does change things a bit.

The way you played it, I don't think he can put you on the flush. I like the way you played this hand on every street. Nice hand.

cool, so I am wondering, what happened after you pushed and did he show his hand or fold?
