Full Version: second nut flush, how far do you go (lhe)

2/4 lhe. About 20 hands in, first pot with villain so no reads.

(9 max, 7 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with [Kd], [2d].
3 folds, BB calls.

Flop: (6.50 SB) [3d], [Tc], [6d] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls, Hero calls.

Turn: (6.25 BB) [9d] (3 players)
BB checks, Hero bets

Steal attempt turns into 2nd nut flush. But how far do we go with it?

1) 3-bet this turn? What if it's capped?

2) What do you do on a non-diamond river that doesn't pair the board?

Thanks,
Jeff

I'd fold it preflop, you can't steal much @ 2/4.

I'd 3 bet the turn/call a cap, and lead the river.

And then he raises your river bet. You... ?

There's only one hand that beats you right now, you're leaving too much money on the table if you only get 1 bet in on the river with the second nuts.

Given that it's a steal he probably figures you for a bluff, and for holding garbage. I'd jam the turn and jam the river (if it didn't pair the board). 2nd nuts to the nut flush is so rare that you're going to be missing bets more often than not. I'm guessing he did have the nut flush, or else you wouldn't be posting this... but none the less, especially at lower limits some people get stupid-aggressive on a hand like a set when the board shows flush or straight, I think you're losing profit if you don't take advantage of it and jam.

Nothing wrong with that steal attempt in my opinion. In fact, I like it.

I think you push to the moon here on the turn, and see what the river brings. If another diamond shows up, put the brakes on. If not, bet/call the river. 8)

I couldn't figure out a way to make it less obvious. Maybe I should have doctored the hand history to show a bet/call or check/call on the river just to see all the "you left money on the table!" responses smile.gif

Ok, so I jammed the turn and river and lost 10BB to A7d. Argh. I don't think I played it terribly wrong, but I probably should have just called the raise on my river bet rather than raising. Live and learn.

Cap turn, bet out on the river but just call if raised.

I don't like this steal from the CO at all. with the BB calling the flop, I'd three bet the flop. I can see that you three bet the turn, which is the only play to make. if the river pairs the board then I bet/call

Why's that? The steal doesn't bother me in the least. I won't say I make it every time with this hand, but I certainly don't mind it here. Why do you?

And if the river doesn't pair and is a non-diamond and he raises your bet?

omg, I can't believe I did that :-) j/k Rocket.

I think Button has a Set much more often than Ax icon_suit_diamond.gif
That being said, I would slow down if raised on a safe river.
And just check/call as paired river.

(edit: btw, this was written before I saw results)

3-bet the flop and turn. preflop is awesome.

Good point.
Edit the color to something like Green next time

These strategy guys are smart.

I'm amazed at how seemingly often the better flush is out there. It's not like 7 players saw the flop. Again, it's probably selective memory. But odds are 2,4 icon_suit_diamond.gif is the best hand in the pot, normally. (well, without regard to the river action)

Why are we 3-betting the flop again?
Is it for the slight equity edge we have?
