Nah, it's allways good to three-bet with two outs.

Turn checkraise usually means Villain can beat top pair, so I'd say he has trips unless he is particularly agressive.

Against a (loose) agressive villain, I play like you did. If you are against a passive player, I call down after the turn c/r.
