Extremely hard to read, but from what I gather from the starting hands, depending on the table this is not a clear starting hand. Sure, you have 3 to a low, but it is a very bad low, especially with the 8 showing (totally different story if the ace was showing). The goal in any split game is to scoop the pot, and that starting hand has very little chance to scoop, which means you will be chasing half of the pot. If the ace was up, your opponents would play totally different against you, but with the 8 they can basically see your low, and know the entire time if they are beating it or not.
IMO - do not complete with this hand. 8)

I'm not great at stud-8, but I agree with Rocket - I'm not completing this. I probably play it only because of the opponents' doorcards.

I
AM that great at Stud 8, and I don't play this because of my opponents doorcards (as well as my cards). lol

I don't hate the complete since there are alot of high cards showing , but when the bring in calls the raise and gets a 5 on 4th I'd start to get concerned. You have a terrible low draw, so I don't think I'd be raising with 87 showing unless the bring in is a donk who plays anything.
The rest of the hand is good, I almost said you should have checked 6th street until I saw the flush draw to go along with the low/straight draw.

Yeah, the only reason I completed was because all but the bringin had a high card up. And yes, the bringin was playing EVERY hand, most likley to the end, with trash up like J,Q or 10,K so who knew what he could have.

Any hand with an 8 is dangerous and marginal. You need to be really careful there. You got lucky that Caleggie must have paired and then bricked. Betting into a a 25 on 4th street is very dangerous I'm shocked he didn't raise your 8. On 5th street he can potentially have you board locked with 245, you are open ended there but may be fighting for only half a pot with the broadway draw with one or two pair by the KJ and the open Kings on another players board.
The 6th st action is scary as well. You are getting called when you have a 3 flush and a 4 straight open on 6th, I think 2 pair is a tough win here on 7th and betting is even tougher, the only hands that could call you on 6th are either made and winning or drawing and will raise your bet if they arrive.
I have to add that I typically play 15/30/45 and 30/60 stud 8 so I'm not familiar with how poorly people may play at this level but stud8 is a game of making lows and backing into highs quite often so caution must always be excercised.

Starting hand selection is the key to winning, very similar to omaha in that way. Don't waste your money on hands that are not highly coordinated. That said, your hand was still looked to be best there regardless. Not necessarily the best hand the whole way, but you had so many ways to improve. People overplay so many hands in stud that it's amazing, you just have to be there when they do.
On a side note i think that drawing to the 6-9, 7-10, and 8-J open enders are the biggest traps in stud 8. The 6-9 you had being the worst because you may also think that you have a good shot at scooping with the rough 8. Usually you want to just be more patient and wait for better starting hands, and dump them if they don't go anywhere. You still have to pick up some money with lesser holdings but thats all about reading hand strength, which is so situational i can't really get into it so vaguely.
