Full Version: how would you play this hand?

Scenario is the following...

Last night in the Bodog $15K guarantee; we are down to 45ish players with 27 getting paid. Average stack is around 7K, I have about 2300 in chips with blinds at 150/300. I pick up A's UTG+1 and I'm not exactly sure what the right play is to get maximum benefit. I've got TheBeat(well known online pro) in the BB, but he's only got about 4K in chips. My table image was pretty solid, I had been showing down quality hands all night to this point. Limping is out of the question because I'm pretty short stacked and I felt that would completely give away the strength of my hand. I ended up staying uniform and raising 4xBB and taking them down. It bummed me out a bit because obviously I was hoping for some action...how would some of you played it? Limp in? Raise a smaller amount? Fold? (for the tin foil hat contingency)

I push - it seems more desperate as it projects the idea that you don't want anyone to call you.

Whenever a short stack limps or min-bets - I always get suspicious.

Your 4xBB raise was ok but you're basically pot committed at that point as you put in over 1/2 your stack - it tells me that you want action.
