Full Version: tahoe wsop circuit - faked holecards?

As we all know, ESPN is not above faking holecards to create drama, as they showed us in 2003 multiple times. I think I saw another one in the Tahoe circuit episode.

Lissandro checks his cards and his hand is clearly covering almost everything on the cards. I could make out a red suited card... that's about it. McEachern says it's pocket tens. Okay. Lissandro raises to 15k preflop, Ivey calls in LP with 99, and it's two-handed to the flop.

Board reads 444. Lissandro bets 40k, Ivey calls with some hesitation.

Turn is a 5. Lissandro bets 100k. Ivey goes all in, Lissandro folds with some speed.

Put yourself in Lissandro's shoes. You've got a full boat, beatable only by AA-JJ, 55, or a 4. The pot is something like 220 (I'm not sure what the blinds were) when phil is facing the 100k bet on the turn. Based on the chip counts from the start, Phil has something like 300k, so his all-in is 245 total.

In other words, Lissandro has to call 145k in the 465k pot. Does anybody believe Lissandro would give up TT here against one of the more aggressive and shrewd players in the game? I mean, the implied Ivey-elimination odds have to justify this call, right?

He almost can't have TT, can he?

(Side note -- Isn't it great that they lead with "We have two great professionals at this table" and then snub David Pham completely?)

the one where hellmuth got his opponents to lay down trip j's, go to paul phillips live journal archives and search for it, I don't know the precise date to it and I don't have the time tonight to do it(i'm way lazy to read through his acrchives to find the post). I'll post a link to it if I find the time in the next day or so.

Absolutely no way he lays down 10-10 in that spot. I first saw the episode when i was on the treadmill at the gym and I had it taping at home. As soon as I got home I watched the episode again because I thought ESPN had done something too. I don't see any pro mucking 10-10 with those odds on the turn.

I think that ESPN got the hole cards wrong as I remember that it was very hard to make out what Lissandro had (he didn't give the hole-cam a good look at his cards).

This was the first hand that ESPN showed and I remember thinking WTF? Lissandro is the chip leader and he folds that hand to Ivey?

It'd be great if Lissandro would discuss this hand to say what he really had - it just seems like a very improbable fold.

I actually recorded it with my PC and gave it a second look--you can barely see that one of the cards is a ten.

I was really only half-kidding when I mentioned "implied Ivey-elimination odds"... Ivey was 3rd in chips and in this situation, you HAVE to think that getting rid of Ivey improves your chances of winning greatly, not to mention controlling most of the chips on the table. He played more like he had AT than TT, IMO.
