I know this is a cardinal sin, but I have not read Super System 1. I have read a ton of other poker books, but never made it to 'the Bible of poker' yet. I definitely plan on getting SS2, but my question is should I still go ahead and read SS1 if I am getting SS2 from Amazon next month?

Besides KK I don't know too many people that have read SS2 yet and can really answer this question, but thought I would throw it out there anyways and see what came back. What you think? :?

I haven't read all of SS2, but I don't think it matter. You can read 2 without reading 1. That have a lot of different games actually.

SS2 has omaha h/l, but SS does not. There are a couple other new games too, ie, Daniels Triple Draw Section.

Doyle basically says most of the same thing it SS2 as he does in SS. He actually says something like "i read over my book from 30 years ago and said, damn, this is some good stuff. No need to change it." His basic style is the same.

SS2 has some added sections for the WPT and a few other things.

To make an already long answer short, you do not need to read SS first. They're pretty much different books.

Thank you. My main question was should I still read SS1 if I plan on reading SS2; not necessarily does 2 build off 1. Is SS1 any longer gonna be 'required' reading if one has already read SS2. Hope that makes sense and thanks again for the response.

I would recommend reading SS1 regardless, primarly because most other good players have already. This is not necessary, but it should be on your reading/study list.

Not to stff Doyle... er actually I guess I am... go to a book store and skim through a section on your main game and then make your decision on what priority to assign to it. Obviously, SS2 has a much greater priority.

The answer to your question depends on the games you play. Like I said there are some new games in SS2, but SS2 leaves out some of the games that were in SS.

For the games I like to play, SS2 is all you need.

The limit section by Jennifer harmon is great. Lyle Burman does a really good Pot Limit Omaha. I'm drawing a blank on the guys name (now the CEO at the Bellagio) who does Omaha h/l. Todd Brunson does 7 card stud h/l. Then Doyle does pretty much the same NLHE section.

That's all I need. Maybe you can stop by a book store sometime and see if there are any games or chapters in SS you feel you need to read.

I think in general, SS2 is all you need.

I guess I need to expand my game selection. I ONLY play Hold'em NL. Usually in SnG/MTT Tourny format, but the occassional $50 0.25/0.50 game.

What is the main attraction to games like omaha, hi/lo, stud, etc? Just to have a variance in your games and prevent burnout, the challenge, other?

Ive played Hold'em for about 4 years now and never even attempted another game.

I just noticed you were from Nashville dna. I'm originally from Knoxville and went to UT. I went to high school with Moneymaker, who now lives in your town.

Anyway, the other games are just as fun to me (or at least close) as NLHE. I won a small 40 person stud h/l tournament the other night and I was pumped. Some of the places I play like to play Dealers Choice too, so you have to know several games.

You have to study the other games just like you do NLHE and you may end up liking them just as much. Personally, although I'm not as good (as NLHE), but I really like omaha h/l and pot limit omaha. Those are the games I'm trying to learn right now.

You should give them a try. Be sure to read up on how to play though. You'll get killed in a PL omaha game trying to play like is Holdem.

Dont even bother with SS1 its junk now. All the 'tricks' are obvious to even mediocre players. Go buy Dan Harringtons book.

For NL I heartily second that Harrington's book on NL tournaments is an excellent guide. If you are a good player, you should be able to correctly make the right decision in the many play examples given.

I can't wait for book two.

i wanna say "agreed" but its hard to tell someone not to read supersystem.... at least so they know what some people are doing at the tables. Harrington's book is friggin incredible.... but why wouldnt it be? its a 2+2

Is ss2 out for purchase yet, or is it just preorder from places? i know i see it on half.com, some say preorder some don't, and i emailed the ones that say like "limited quantities" to ask if it's preorder and got no response. I'm very interested in picking it up asap.

I haven't heard about harrington's book. Just looked on ebay for it and saw one copy. Really good for tourney players?

SS2 is available, at least in softcover. Check Amazon.com, or Barnes&Noble (sorry dont know their website and im lazy). Harringtons book is really good for anyone. buy it now. what are you still doing here? why arent you buying the book?
